Because Cam Newton is a better CFB player than Johnny Manziel

Cam was/is like LeBron James. His physical prowess was simply unstoppable. No college kid was going to stop a 6'5, 260lb quarterback that ran a 4.5. Your best best was to outscore them.

LSU shut down Manziel like it was nobody's business. A&M was no more than a scout team out there against the LSU defense.

A&M in 2012 did not have the talent that the 2012 AU team did....

Auburn put a flawed team around Cam, but it was strong enough in all the right places to win the national title.

Offensive line was senior laden, WRs weren't terrible and Lutzenkirchen proved a viable TE target. Michael Dyer emerged as a solid RB later in the season with McCalleb offering speed on the edge. Those options allowed for the playbook to be open enough so that people couldn't just stack the box on Cam all the time, but even if you did, he could move around you or run through you.

Outside of the first quarter of the Iron Bowl that year, that offense was close to unstoppable.

2012 TAMU had a great offensive line, probably one of the best I can remember, and some great WR talent.

2010 Auburn had a senior laden offensive line that wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as 2012 TAMU. The WRs were nowhere near as talented. Love them to death, great at run blocking and Darvin Adams was clutch when we needed him, but nobody on the WR corps had a prayer at the NFL.

3 games is insufficient to prove a player is inferior, you assess their career and what they accomplished. In 2012, Johnny ran for more TDs than Cam in 2010 and roughly the same amount of rushing yards. He threw for more yards than Cam in both seasons and with higher pass pct, averaged 31 TD passes in both seasons. Really the only argument people have for Cam is the national title which is stupid bc that's a team accomplishment, we're arguing individual players.

Not sure about that... Johnny had to improvise way way to much in 2012. I give him credit for being able to do great things while doing it, however he was running for his life more than any set running play for him.....

It's all about the spin.

Cam had a better passer rating, more rushing yards, more total TDs, more passing TDs, less INTs, nearly equal rushing TDs, roughly the same comp %, led his team to a National Championship, and didn't choke in big games.

All you've got in favor of Manziel when comparing their best season is more passing yards and a less than 2% better comp %.

You realize that 90% of his rushing yards were when he was escaping from the pocket due to pressure correct????? And LSU shut him down completley...FACT.

Compare the two against ranked opponents. I don't care what Manziel did against SMU and South Carolina State. Likewise, I don't care what Newton did against Arkansas State and UL-Monroe.

For their Heisman seasons:

Manziel
quote:

Vs. #24 Florida 173 passing yards 0/0; 60 rushing yards 1td

@ #23 Louisiana Tech (Shreveport) 395 passing yards 3/1; 181 rushing yards 3tds

vs #6 LSU 276 passing yards 0/3; 27 rushing yards 0td

@ #17 Mississippi State 311 passing yards 0/0; 129 rushing yards 2tds

@ #1 Alabama 253 passing yards 2/0; 92 rushing yards 0tds

vs #12 Oklahoma (Cotton Bowl) 287 passing yards 2/1; 229 rushing yards 2tds.

Newton
quote:

Vs. #12 South Carolina 158 passing yads 2/0; 176 rushing yards 3tds

Vs. #12 Arkansas 140 passing yards 1/0; 188 rushing yards 3tds

Vs. #6 LSU 86 passing yards 0/0; 217 rushing yards 2tds

@ #9 Alabama 216 passing yards 3/0; 39 rushing yards 1td

Vs. #18 South Carolina (SEC Championship) 335 passing yards 4/0; 73 rushing yards 2tds

Vs. #2 Oregon (National Championship) 265 passing yards 2/1; 64 rushing yards 0td.

Total:
Manziel- 1,695 passing yards, 7 touchdown 5 interceptions, 718 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns

Newton: 1,200 passing yards, 12 touchdowns 1 interception, 757 rushing yards, 11 rushing touchdowns
