I'm sure there are plenty of GMs that wouldn't take Lebron as their top choice if they could have any player in basketball.

Give one example outside of Cleveland???

A few might take Dwight Howard, but who else is in the discussion?

yeah, I would think it would have to be DH or LJ... maybe someone goes off the reservation and picks up kevin durant

to win just one series I could see some picking kobe #1... personally I think he is past that point in his career but others will disagree

What has Howard done to be picked over James?

He is no more a proven commodity than the next guy.

If they had any choice , it would be James.

There isn't one manager in the league or one gm outside of Cleveland that wouldn't take Lebron James over anyone right now. That isn't even debatable.

Not the argument here. LeBron has the most upside and is still young. The question you should ask is for one game name the top 5 players you would want on your team. LeBron right now doesn't make the top 5

I will not argue with ignorance. If you believe this, with all due respect, you're fricking retarded

Howard is far and away the best big man in basketball. He has gone to a finals already, and you can make a strong case that he deserved to be MVP this year. You ask what Howard has proven, and it really isn't much less than what Lebron has proven.

I'm not a Lebron hater... I think he is a great player... but it is not like he removed all doubt in the Finals this year... rather he raised questions about wtf was going on when he suddenly played well below his abilities

DH has been pretty amazing pretty consistently over the last few years... although he was knocked out early in teh playoffs this year it wasn't his fault... IMO he played about as well as he could have

Plus, many people like having a great big to build a team around... DH is about the only center like that you can point to in the NBA right now

So yes, I certainly think there would be a real debate between taking DH and LJ first

Howard is soft. I will give you the fact he is the best big man in basketball, but if the Magic owner had the chance for Lebron or Howard, i would bet money on Lebron.

Stop watching Sportcenter and actually watch a basketball game. I wont waste my time, you obviously dont know what you are talking about. Actually I am in touch with some of the greatest basketball minds.

I will not defend James for his performance in the finals. But, he is by a wide margin the best player in the game right now

Howard is the best big man no question, but definitely not overall.

I am now thinking of applying for analyst job at ESPN, b/c those picks are ridiculous.

You can't have a top 5 list and leave James and Howard off it, and still expect to have credibility.

Nowitzki is a great player, but being #1 or #2 is simply a baseless knee jerk reaction to the finals. I don't think Anthony is a top 5 player (def top 10) and Zac Randolph being #5 is insanely laughable.

Thoughts?

Those idiots are excluding LeBron simply because of the fallout over the series with Dallas. LeBron is the best player in basketball today, bar none; not even up for discussion. I can see Dirk around #5, but he is not 1 or 2, I don't care what anyhone says. Carmelo Anthony gets my vote for most overrated, and he is not a Top 5 player by any means; he may get his points, but I wonder if he is the kind of player that can win championships...
Zach Randolph #5?? Come on, man!...

Well, MVP should be what player has the most value to his team; however the voters seem to think it means who the best player is.

The way I see it, when making a list for best NBA players, you have to imagine yourself the GM of a franchise having the 1st pick in a draft where all players are free agents. Who are you taking first? Second? Third?

1) James
2) Kobe
3) Durant
4) Howard
5) Wade

Yeah, no GM in his right mind would take Dirk over those guys... he only beat 4 of the 5 HTH over the past 7 weeks. With a 38 yo PG and Jet Terry, no less.

Lebron forfeited this last week. You can still make an argument he's the best player in the league, but it's not a ridiculous discussion like it was 14 months ago. There are legitimately a few guys who you'd probably rather have on your team than Lebron. This wasn't the case before the Boston series last year.

If a GM was starting a team, he would take James, Durant, or Howard. You could sell me on Rose, but age plays a huge part of this.
