The only list Namath belongs on is most overrated player of all time. The man had more career interceptions than touchdown passes.

He was the first NFL super star. The dude pretty much invented the modern day persona of the franchise QB. The league does not get as popular as it did without Namath's larger-than-life personality. He also was the first QB to throw for over 4,000 yards in a (14-game) season. It wouldn't happen again until Marino did it in a 16-game season.

I think Aaron Rodgers needs to be a bit higher. I would have him higher than Favre and Brees at least.

But overall pretty solid list. There isn't anyone not on the list who I would say deserves to be up here. Some of the older guys I don't know as much about so I don't have an opinion there.

Thought that was smart on your part to rank Tittle that high. Tbt I think he’s the greatest QB in Giants history, that three year stretch from 61-63 is among the greatest a QB ever submitted, I truly believe Tittle’s 1963 season may be the greatest ever submitted by a quarterback.

And Elway at 12 behind Marino?

Give me Dan Marino every day of the week over Elway. I know Elway has two titles, but Marino might be the most talented passer of all time (Mahomes has a case here eventually).

He was passing like it was 2020 in 1984. So far above his peers in that regard.

You may want to provide your list of measures/stats, but I doubt many can debate the overall list (perhaps puck some nits about a few rankings).

Criteria used in this ranking (each was weighted differently to come up with a total):
1. Super Bowl/Championship game appearances
2. Super Bowl/Championship game wins
3. Super Bowl/Championship game MVP awards
4. All-Pro awards (1st and 2nd team)
5. Pro Bowl awards
6. Seasons w/ Top 10 Passer Rating
7. Seasons meeting minimum attempts (this gave preference to longer careers and helped compare young (Mahomes and Watson) vs old (Brees and Brady).
8. MVP and Player of the Year awards
9. Regular Season Passer Rating
10. Playoff Passer Rating
11. Yds per completion (not accounted for in passer rating)
12. Rookie of the Year awards
13. Comeback Player of the Year awards
14. Rushing yards per game
15. Rushing TDs per game
16. Fourth Quarter Comebacks
17. Named to NFL All Decade Teams
18. Named to NFL 100 All-Time Team

Passing yards and TDs were not directly used. These stats vary significantly from the 1940s to now as the game evolved into a pass heavy league. Of course, they also throw, by in large, shorter passes today. Also, pass yds and pass TDs are factored into the Passer Rating statistic.

All active players are still climbing the rankings. I suspect another 1 or 2 stellar seasons would push Rodgers past Brees.

Favre and Brees ahead of Marino is an absolute joke.

I like this list a lot.

I certainly like it more than the random sports talk show host lists that come out all the time that are just based on subjectivity completely and no data.

A lot of Marino love. That's great. The fault with my ranking is eliminating the "eyeball test." But that was the point of the exercise... just use quantifiable factors.
Of course, watching Marino throw to Clayton and Duper was special. He made so many young boys (me included) want to watch the Dolphins.

Thanks for sharing. Can you give insight on what #s specifically in your data warranted Favre over Brees?

Probably because he's better?

This board led me to believe the only thing that matters is rangz... so the top 4 has to be

Brady
Bradshaw
Montana
Aikman

with a tie for #5 led by all time great, Eli Manning.

Eli Manning comes in at #49 in my rankings. That's outside of Hall of Fame consideration. However, we now place so much stock on SB rings, he is probably right on the cusp of a gold jacket.

I’m interested in the metrics you used. Which stats/accomplishments carry more weight?

Are you ranking them on ability? Careers? Accomplishments?

You can rank nfl QBs in many different ways
