The Chicago White Sox stunned the baseball world Thursday, announcing the hiring of Tony La Russa as their new manager.

It’s a blast from the past for the franchise with the return of La Russa, who led the Sox to a division title in 1983.

The Hall of Famer will look to do it again — and more — in a surprising return to the organization.

La Russa, 76, last managed in 2011, when he guided the St. Louis Cardinals to a World Series title. He won three World Series as manager of the Oakland Athletics (1989) and Cardinals (2006, ’11).

TLR is 76, and he's not bringing in Duncan.

I'm blown away they would hire La Russa. Hinch seemed like a perfect fit there with that young team.

Do you really think Larussa can manage today's players.
Bad hire at his age.

White Sox Renteria deserved at least one more year with how bad that organization has been until this season
They do have a lot of young talent

Hinch and Cora might have to wait until next offseason before they get another shot. I wouldn't rush back if I was Hinch, too polarizing right now.

Gross. Really old manager for that young core.

Hinch probably would have been the perfect fit there honestly.

LaRussa might be the greatest tactical manager in the history of the game. Guy invented the modern day bullpen. If anybody can keep up tactically after being out of the game for so long, it's him.

That seems like a bad/desperate hire. 76 and hasn't been a manager for a decade.

First active HoF manager ever.

No, he's the second active HOF manager after Connie Mack. Mack was inducted at age 74 but he managed until he was 87 years old.

Terrible hire for the next step...Renteria maxed out on what he could do.

Mckeon was 73 when the Marlins brought him back, but he had only been out of MLB for 3 years.

Damn, I guess Twitter lied to me then.

According to Hall of Fame, Tony La Russa becomes the first active HoF manager (not HoF player who became a manager) in baseball history.

Nevermind you're wrong.

Don't know how the Hall of Fame forgot about this but I guess I shouldn't expect more from an organization that still hasn't inducted the best player in the history of the game.
