To Kneel or Not To Kneel

When J. Hill fumbled the ball, everyone was jumping on the "Why didn't the Bengals Kneel it?" bandwagon.
However, I can't recall a team ever kneeling in this situation. A first down ends the game, but to kneel is to concede mid 40s field goal, which then could have been blocked or missed setting up the Steelers in great field position to win the game with a field goal.
The best course of action is to run 3 times and either win with first down or kick a mid 30s field goal which is much more safe in distance to make.
It's so easy to beat your chest about kneeling but that's never done and it wouldn't have been the proper strategy. We are just saying that because of the outcome of the fumble.
If Bengals kneeled 3 times and then they lost after, Lewis would have been immediately fired for the stupidity.
GO Browns!

Why does everyone keep forgetting that Pittsburgh still had ALL THREE timeouts left?

The only other option for Marvin Lewis was to give Burkhead the ball 3 times since he doesn't have the history of fumbling. But Hill should be able to safely take 3 carries knowing fumbling is the worst possible outcome.
Plus if he doesn't fumble it would have been like 2nd and 3 and the game was pretty much over.

Yep, had he not fumbled, the Bengals were about 2 plays and 3 yards away from salting away the game.

I was never thinking they should've taken a knee, that's 100% hindsight. It didn't make sense with Pittsburgh still having all their timeouts. Hill's fumble was just the worst possible outcome.

Put two hands on the football son.

Kneeling shouldn't have even been considered.
1st, the odds of fumbling are very low, even in that weather.
2nd, had they kneeled 3 times, they were looking at being up 1 while attempting a 47 yard field goal. In that weather, that's a tough kick, and if you miss, Pitt has a ton of time to get into field goal range very easily.
You have to for the 1st there, no brainer.

When tryin to milk the clock, ball security takes priority over fighting for extra yards.
And you can't take knee when opponent has 3 TOs.

Clay Travis was saying to kneel btw

You don't kneel there.
Whoever is saying that doesn't understand football. Period.

Was the ball wet or dry?

If they kneel in that situation then today everyone is talking about how stupid it was. I can't ever remember someone kneeling in that situation. A first down wins it. You can't fumble in that situation.

Which makes their defensive scheme on the last drive even more questionable.

Steelers had all 3 TOs left.
If they'd kneeled and settled for the FG and miss then we are talking about why didn't they run it to ice the game.

You can't kneel the ball there. You run three plays and hope to pick up the first down.

Kneeling in that situation just isn't logical.
