I look at the back of the ball because that's where the club head is supposed to make contact. I do look at the top of the ball in a fairway bunker to help me make sure I hit the ball first.

That's the worst advice. Why quit something you love?

Third tip... Never pay for golf lessons if you're not a pro. It's a waste of time and money.
Not true. I had two lessons, both in my early years of playing and they helped me with fundamentals like the set-up, alignment, and take away. I paid $60 for the two lessons and it was money well spent.
quote:That's absurd, at least if you live in an urban area. Golf courses in Los Angeles are super crowded. You need to spend time on the practice range hitting balls and practicing chipping, putting etc. There's an old adage that you can't find your game during the round, and there's truth to that unless you're in a rural area and are playing a course where you can spend time practicing during the round.
Fourth tip... never practice. It's a waste of time and money. Just play. It's a game and you're never gonna make any money from it.
I have a 6 handicap and I most definitely would tell people they need to do both, practice and play.

from my estimation..about 99% of all shots are better off if you don't "decelerate" through the shot.
ETA: Also, playing from the correct tees helps greatly (in reducing strokes and time of play). If you don't have the game for the back tees...don't play from there - that's why different tees are available. Move back when your handicap allows for it. Nothing worse than 3x a year golfers slowing everything up because they go to play from the tips because they once hit a 270 yard drive.

quote:That is so true. I see guys every week who can barely hit the ball out of their own shadows, but they play from the blue (back) tees. I asked a guy once why he was playing from those tees (his good drives barely went 200 yards). He told me he wanted to get his money's worth.
