there really wasn't anything else on but that's still surprising to me that a Charity match is the highest viewed golf telecast ever. it was good tv tho, could see them doing this again next summer with all the attention it got. the banter was probably the best part with Chuck in the booth.

quote:

Turner Sports said the Sunday telecast of “The Match: Champions for Charity” attracted an average of 5.8 million viewers across four of its networks. Turner says it was the most-watched golf telecast in cable TV history.

It said the previous record was 4.9 million viewers on ESPN at the 2010 Masters, the year Tiger Woods returned to golf for the first time since the scandal in his personal life.

Highest viewed golf telecast On cable. Big distinction. It wasn’t outdrawing the final round of the masters

I turned it on but quickly became bored with it.

It was one of those events where the idea and hype was more fun than the actual event :/

Tom Brady'a pants split. That's going to attract some viewers.

To the contrary (IMO), it was one of the few such events where it was actually about as fun as I hoped it would be

Probably has as much to do with people being starved for live sport more so than anything else.

It was fun to watch and I was impressed with Peyton's play. He could probably get a PGA Tour Card if he decided to attempt it.

Brady holing out from the fairway was pretty damn good because most of the day he was spraying the course with errant balls. He must have said "Gosh Darnit" a dozen times when I was watching.

Brady holing that shot after Charles was giving him so much shite was awesome. The golf itself was just ok but the commentary between the players and the announcers was what made it good. Justin Thomas as an on course reporter was underrated imo.

Id watch a match like that every weekend.

Say what you want about Peyton Manning but the guy was the closest thing to a Jordan in the NFL in terms of attracting fan interest and attention to the sport. The public still can't enough of him even five years after his retirement playing a completely different sport.

Not sure about the Jordan part but the dude relates. He's funny as hell and doesn't mind making fun of himself. His level of humility is more and more rare amongst pro athletes.
