Not a yank fan but he was a very good catcher. Always enjoyed watching him play. He was solid.
Weird thing was my mom had a crush on him

He burned to death in the pilot chair.

I was born in '87 so forgive me if I never saw a man who died eight years before I came into existence play.

I got to see him play in the summer of '79 shortly before his plane crash. RIP

Grew up in his home town, which is also where the crash occurred. Remember the crash like it was yesterday - I learned about it when word spread through our HS football practice, which was unusual in the days before cell phones and Twitter.

He bought a Cessna jet so that he could come home during road trips. Crash occurred at the airport while he was practicing take-offs or landings.

You're from Canton? I grew up near Alliance. We were practically neighbors.

Munson was a great catcher and Yankee.

We ate lunch on Thurman Munson Blvd. We saw the street sign and got a cold chill.
