Yes, from Canton. My main memory of the Aviators is getting into a varsity basketball game as a sophomore. I was pretty pumped until I realized that I had to guard Kevin Gaffney, if you know who that was. It was not fun and yes I am old.

I do know Kevin Gaffney. He was a player.

I grew up in Beloit and went to West Branch.

A true baseball fan would never say this. I wasn’t around either but I damn sure knew who he was.

I mean, damn son.

This.

I know plenty of players who died before I was born.

I went to GlenOak. We played Alliance and the Salem Quakers but don’t think we ever played West Branch when I was there. Was there a Sebring High? I have a vague memory of seeing a sign on the road to Salem.

Thurman was apparently very close friends with Ron Guidry as you can imagine. I have seen him around Lafayette quite a bit through the years.

I have heard the names of such baseball players as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ty Cobb, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Pete Rose, Joe DiMaggio, and a host of others. Their names are worth remembering. Why should I remember Thurman Munson?

Yes, there’s a Sebring High. Little class A school. Sebring has churches and bars and little else.
