I'm sure this has probably been discussed here before, so my apologies. Had a friend who was at one of the Jefferson Parish little league games a few weeks ago and said one kid got intentionally walked every time he came to the plate.

I believe it was the championship game, but it made me curious what the consensus is on this. Frowned upon unless it's a championship game? Frowned upon altogether?

I get that the kids are competitive and want to win, but I'd be kind of bummed if my kid got walked every time. It's not college or pro.. at the end of the day, they're just out there to have fun.

I believe this was 10-11 year olds.

Seems like a compliment to the kid's skills if they're that scared to pitch to him.

If it's in a LLWS qualifier, go for it.

In just a normal "everyone gets a trophy" little league game, pretty lame.

True.. friend said the kid was big for his age and pretty much raked in the other games. I'm not part of the "everyone gets a trophy" camp.. Maybe it depends on the age. I suppose at 10-11 they should be old enough to embrace the winning and losing aspect.

Championship of what? The Upper Half Southwest ArkLaTex Regional 4th District Community Dedicated Invitational presented by Eddies Bail Bonds or the Pensacola Ultra Mega Grand World Series of Eastern Western Florida Panhandle?

Just a case of the coach trying to act like the smartest person in the room but actually just being a dumbass

I could give it a pass for it being regionals, state tournaments, World Series, and that stuff, but during regular rec ball season, or just some warm up all star tournament, if you intentionally walk a kid, you’re just a bush league coach.

I actually coached a rec ball team a few years ago, and the coach we were playing against intentionally walked my best hitter everytime. I was pretty pissed about that, because this shite isn’t about winning or losing. It’s about teaching the kids baseball, and getting them reps, so they can get better. That’s just my view on little league baseball. It shouldn’t be about winning.

Intentionally walking a kid who isn’t old enough to get a learner’s permit is pitiful.

The opposing coaches should be embarrassed, just pitch to the kid for Pete's sake

Intentionally walking a kid because he is good and you’re scared to pitch to him? Bush league

Intentionally walking a kid because it could set up a force play? Perfectly fine, because it’s part of baseball

It's lame at every level of baseball. There should be a penalty much greater than a free base for an intentional walk.

You coach to win the game at those levels of competition. If you don’t like the rules, petition to change it. You can still walk the kid without an intentional walk being allowed. Keeping monster Johnny to a single w no rbi or homer is huge if he’s that legit.

I don’t like walking a kid every time he comes up because you are teaching both parties to be non competitive. I want to teach all boys to be bulldog competitors
I have no problem walking a kid when the baseball in game strategy calls for it but not to try and avoid a guy in the lineup. Attack him and get him out. If you don’t- learn from it
