Has anyone ever checked if Cincinnati is the cigarette capital of the world?

Am I the only one who doesn’t know what “the CW” is?

You think you're a badass for not watching the American classic that is Gilmore Girls?

What is happening here?

This is not something someone in his shoes would say.

It’s really difficult not to say slurs when being around a bunch of homo liberals like yourself

Milo deserved to have a grudge against the Cubs. He was told he was going to be the lead guy with six innings on WGN TV and 3 on the radio when Jack Brickhouse retired.

I don't blame Harry Carey wanting a job with the Cubs, but the Tribune company went back on their word. They should have hired Harry and have him do six innings on the radio and the middle three on TV and Harry could have sang during the 7th inning stretch and done his gimmick with three innings on tv.

I like Harry Carey and Skip and Chip by the way, but the Tribune Company made a big mistake and there was a time when play by play guys acted like gentlemen and respected each others' jobs. What is not widely known is that a lot of announces of their era did not approve of what Harry Carey did.

Thom quoted Blazing Saddles during an off air part of the broadcast. Movie quotes get the best of us!

yes, I’m aware of the museum thanks to Oakland A’s broadcasting legend/hero, Glen Kuiper (RIP) who courageously sacrificed his career spreading the word about its history and cultural significance in America.

yeah, his choice of phrase here also struck me as odd

to me, “rolling the dice” implies that he may or may not use homophobic slurs while on air this go-round…and if he does happen to slip up and get caught in the same situation…well, that’s on the CW. after all, they didn’t have to give him this second chance as a broadcaster or hire him in any capacity. in fact, they probably should have thought better of the decision.

seems like anyone else would’ve simply said they were grateful/excited for the opportunity, appreciated the CW for believing in them and wouldn’t let them down or make them regret their decision

I dunno…probably reading too much into this, but that’s how I took his comments

And I don't disagree with you on this, but man - he held that grudge and held it and held it and went on about it, dropped snarky comments about it constantly 20 years after the fact - had to be very unhealthy for him that he was never able to let it go.

I have no doubt they did - Cub fans that bitch about the Ricketts got no clue how much better they are as owners, but I digress.

Business is ugly sometime but I can tell you one thing - it is probably the single best move made in Cub history from a business standpoint.

Folks who think the Cubs always packed Wrigley don't know the history. The fact that they hired Harry at the same time WGN started getting picked up by local cable outlets throughout the country was the perfect storm.
I can absolutely guarantee the Cubs popularity they have today (Every road game I go to has thousands of Cub fans in the stands and sometimes more fans than the home team) would not be what it is had they stuck with Milo only and not hired Harry.

So bad ethics, bad way of doing business, not very chivalrous of Harry, all that I can see....but the Cubs are still reaping the monetary benefits of it.

Yeah, I remember watching that. Not sure why he was let go by the Cubs but yep, he held a grudge for quite a while.
