Coronavirus testing begins tomorrow for the restart. Players can announce if they aren't showing up on Wednesday.

quote:

Bobby Marks @BobbyMarks42 19m

Big week of dates for the NBA

Tue.- Coronavirus testing begins

Tue.- Transaction window (30 teams)- 12PM ET.

Wed.- A player should notify his team if he is not playing

Sat.- Two-Way contracts (only 22 teams in Orlando) can be signed

Sun- Last day to waive a player- 5PM ET.

If multiple players test positive, and the spike in Florida cases continues to be a media story...will we see this whole thing collapse?

Multiple players WILL test positive, that’s almost a given. MLS has had 5 so far (all asymptomatic) and they start on July 8th. The key is having proper isolation protocol in place.

What happens if a bunch test positive? Do they shut down or push fwd?

Better question, what happens if lebron, or giannis, or kawhi test positive a week before start? Or in the middle of 2nd round? Those are faces of the league.. what do they do then?

The NBA will handle this with their usual grace and equanimity.

The LOGICAL thing would be to push forward. Doing testing this early and as often as they are going to gives players that test positive a chance to "recover" before training camp, and it identifies players that are positive and ones that aren't early. It should be seen as a good thing.

But the NBA to me is the most overreacting league there is, so there will be mass panic.

Yea, i know logical. And what i hope they do.. just wondering do they go full panic and shut it down. Or if we are in the conf finals, bron and giannis pop positive, do they continue the rest of conf/ nba finals without those 2? What would they do?

Wondered same with nfl. Do they risk losing mahommes for 2-4 weeks during season if he popa positive? Or tom brady? What do they do here

First player that I'm aware of that isn't injured that has announced they are going to not participate:

quote:

Reporting with @TimBontemps: Washington Wizards F Davis Bertans has decided to sit out the Orlando restart, sources tell ESPN. Bertans is entering free agency off of his most productive NBA season – with two ACL injuries in his past.

They aren't playing...because the players don't want to play.

Covid and the "social climate" will be given as the excuses, but the the off season started months ago for these guys and they have no interest in gearing back up for a 2-3 month "season" essentially quarantined in Disney World. Almost as soon as the NBA announced they were going to resume on 7/31 the reasons why they shouldn't play started rolling in. The media is in an all out blitz to keep this current way of life going for as long as personally and politically expedient (Turn on ANY news network today. It's ALL doom and gloom that doesn't match reality)

I will be SHOCKED if they actually finish the season. You can see the final cancellation coming from a mile away

Unfortunately tennis just shut down their whole tournament this weekend over a single positive.

this

You ask what if Bron tests positive, but what if he tears an ACL in the WCF? He didn’t even make the playoffs last year, should we have not had them?

I mean that was a tournament that was actually taking place at the time, with full fans.

This is testing before training camp even starts. Players that test positive will have plenty of time to recover before play begins.

But if one or more does, this whole thing will collapse. Guaranteed.

Yea hope no panic ensues when a few test positive

It’s happened in soccer over in Europe without much alarm, players are isolated for a week and shite keeps going

Not the same thing, at all. Personally i would just play it out. But what will nba do? It gets late in playoffs. Lakere and bucks looking at nba finals. Bron and/or giannis pop positive for rona..

Yup. I expect the Lakers to be very vocal about canceling

40 MLB players just tested positive

This is never going to happen

We just don't know this, I wish it were the case but the reality is that everything is in flux.

There are no 100%s right now.
