So basically JUCO guys can get 6 years of college sports? Lets say a kid goes JUCO for 2 years, transfers D1, redshirt, medical redshirt, we are talking 8 years!

Basically any high school prospect who isn’t at least a 3 star can kiss D1 goodbye, why take a chance on an 18yr old high school kid when you can get a 20yr old kid with 2yrs experience? Then you can go after that same high school kid 2yrs later if he pans out. I remember when a 24yr old playing college was weird and unique, now it’ll the average age of some of these schools.

My kid is a high school pitcher, senior. He’s small college material but this stuff kills high school recruiting. They recruit the portal first and now they can possibly get 4 years out of a juco kid instead of 2. It’s a legit mess.

This will absolutely screw HS kids. I’ve been on a lot of recruiting visits/games. There is NO COMPARISON between JUCO and HS kids physically. There is no reason to take a HS kid when you can take a 20 year old and they have the same amount of eligibility. Other than the top 3-400 players or so, JUCO will be the route.

Ok, what's the problem? The kid can go to college like a normal kid or focus on sports and develop at a JuCo. NBD.

Seems like it would give mid-to-lower tier kids more opportunities, no?

The top HS kids are gone to the 4 year schools.

Now, for the other kids, it seems that instead of having to sit the bench at a I-A, or go AA/D2/D3...they can now go Juco, get some playing time, grow, and then have a full 4 years coming out of Juco.

I could also be thinking of this entirely wrong...

Seems like this would be the case and good for the middle of the road players

Programs are going to start pushing their recruits to certain JUCOs. They’re going to form relationships with a school(s) and tell HS seniors to go there first to develop. To some extent they were doing that before all this anyway with kids that were non-qualifiers.

You’ll also start seeing more 2 year schools add football over the next several years. On the east coast, there’s only a handful of football playing Junior Colleges.

My son is a senior in HS and has a couple of friends who are baseball prospects. Not LSU level but legit prospects. A few years ago they would have gone to USM, LA Tech, etc. They are all going Juco now.

You’re forgetting a tier. The ones it hurts are the Juco/D2/D3 level high school kids.

Those kids are now not going to get an opportunity to play college sports at all because random state university is going to be full of 25yr olds
