47 years ago. Amazing it’s been around that long. And we had no full time sports channel prior. Sports rules the TV ratings nowadays

Maybe I’m misremembering, but didn’t ESPN broadcast the LSU vs USC game later that month?

frick ESPN.

With that out of the way, we got cable about 1984. I can remember ESPN showing tractor pulls and Australian rules football and pretty sure fricking roller derby.

On tape delay. ESPN didn't show live regular season games until 1984.

That was filler for the times when Worlds Strongest Man Competitions weren’t available.

Yes. I think that was the first major event broadcast by ESPN. I was there We got screwed by the refs. I consider that the most exciting game in Tiger Stadium history that LSU lost. ESPN started off with a bang.

I remember being up late in college and they had on wheelchair billiards
