So...... did the NFL front office get bored one day and just decide to spend all of their time looking for anything they could to get Gruden? Because that's what it seems like.

I don't think the NFL had anything to do with this.
Sounds like someone had been holding onto this for a while and was waiting for whenever Gruden had a good team to unleash it all.

We've all said said/written something that would get us fired if someone really decided to dig.

I think it came up when the FBI was investigating Dan Snyder. Hence the Washington cheerleaders. Now, idk who's leaking them but I think that's how they were discovered.
