I agree. If he really does plan on having a long coaching career, he's going to have to come around to building whatever program he's at with high school recruits. The portal should be used to plug some holes, not build an entire roster.

True, and QB is the hardest position to evaluate, not just coming out of high school, but coming out of college into the NFL. Do top schools who want to compete for championships every year start to get away from investing all the time and money it takes to recruit and sign the top high school QBs in the country now?
No coach who has a championship caliber team everywhere else wants to start a true freshman at QB. And they don’t want to invest all the resources (time, travel, phone calls, text messages, NIL $, time developing, etc…) it would take to land a top high school QB only for another school to reap the rewards 2-3 years later.
A lot of us have been warning about the unintentional consequences of NIL and the portal. Is one of them the devaluation of the top high school QBs? Is the new normal about to be to take the highest ranked local kid who grew up loving your school that you can get with relatively little investment who is more likely to stick around as a backup for 2-3 years? If he develops into a good starter, great, If not, just invest all that you would have into that 5 star high school guy into a portal guy where you know what you’re getting?

Let’s all remember the transfer portal rules
Any player you lose never lived up to the hype, was never going to develop or get better and the backup is a huge upgrade
Any player you acquire is a huge get, was a big prospect in HS years ago and his former team wasn’t utilizing him right. He wants to play for a winner
