Best player 6' and under in NBA history?

I never liked Iverson (as a fan), but I used to love watching him play ball. Dude was fearless.

Also, reading up a little about him, apparently his 10-year, $50 million contract with Reebok got a lifetime extension back in 2001. I'm not sure if there were any escape clauses in there (though I'm sure there were), but I imagine that he's still on Reebok's payroll at about $5 mill per year (estimated...the details of the extension were undiscolsed in the article I found).

Wonder how different things would have been if the Sixers beat the Lakers in the finals.

Allen Iverson never defined basketball to me. He merely defined what arrogance is.

Second, what tragedy? That he blew his money? That he got divorced? That he never finished college? That he doesn't want to work a normal work week like a regular person? He got millions to play 82 games a year (more if he was lucky). That's not a tragedy.

couldn't agree more with this statement. sucks for the guy, but i have no pity for him.

he got so arrogant, that it stopped being about the game and the fans, and became all about him - and thats about when I stopped caring about him. its the same to me, with any athlete of any sport.

When the Hornets played the Sixers in the playoffs I sat on the court in Nola and AI dove for a ball headed out of bounds and fell on me and knocked me over in my chair. I had to be 14 years old or close to it. He picked me and my chair up and asked if I was "all good".

I thought I was the luckiest 14 year old on the fricking planet

Iverson's only redeeming quality was he played hard. Other than that he was a pretty shitty human being from what i could tell.

and one of the most enjoyable players to watch in league history.

If you enjoy watching someone continue to shoot the ball poorly even to the detriment of his own team. Iverson would drive the lane and attempt some circus shot over three defenders when there were at least two other guys open for the shot. His "me first" attitude is probably largely the reason why his personal life is also in shambles.

I would agree that Iverson gave it his all usually, BUT,
the one time i got to see him, i splurged and bought seats on the floor behind the goal back when Morris Bart was back there.
AI had one of his worst and shittiest performances of his career. He might have played half of the game, scored in single digits and looked like he was somewhere else. Was the only time i'd ever see him play so lacklusterly, snd i got to witness it in person.

i honestly think he could still play in the NBA, if he could cut down on his shots and become more of a passer. Be a real PG.

agreed, though I don't know that he'd have to be strictly a passing PG. someone could let him be a bench scorer. but IIRC, he was averse to coming off the bench.

he should take a page outta T-Mac's book.

See above post. That would never happen. Allen Iverson would never have it be about anybody but himself. This isn't Chris Paul or John Stockton we are talking about.

No shite. Lack of father figures, tough neighborhood, etc. It does not exactly turn out successful citizens.

CSB: My dad ran track with Vick's dad in high school. Vick's dad was two years younger than my dad and I am like 11 years younger than Mike Vick.

Vick's dad knocked his mom up at like 16 (and then left her).

His spending is like his scoring was-- problematic because it was a product of volume, not efficiency.

Iverson is such a paradox. (I think that's the right word.)

You either loved him or hated him. He was the first guy that game into the league flaunting the tattoo, hip-hop look. Some people hated it and despised everything he represented, others liked it and finally others were won over by Iverson because at the end of the day he played his heart out on the court. He was the toughest SOB in the league. Took a beating every night. And just kept going strong.

i liked watching him play, and i loved his toughness. there's no arguing that he played hard, but he only played hard on his terms. it's almost like he'd rather lose on his terms than win by compromising. someone said earlier "he'd still be in the league if...." but w/ iverson there is no if. he doens't know any other way.

it's not about having pity for iverson for being broke, it's just unfortunate to see success squandered.
