No offense, but this is what losers do; they blame external phenomena for failure. Alabama has as tough of an in-state competitor as you can get; they have less talent in their state then we do; yet they have been the top program in America over the last 50 years.

The threat is from within. It is our own reluctance to be great. It is so with everyone and with every organization.

It would get interesting real fast if ULL were invited to join the Big 12 IMHO.

But ULL does have better programs going in some sports, like baseball and softball both being better than LSU this year head-to-head.

Nobody on a national level gives two hoots about college baseball and softball. Both are minor sports.

So LSU should be shaking in their boots because ulala won a mid week game & now they are ready to overtake one of the nation's top programs???? Softball? Ok, they have a top 10-15 program, good for them, it's frickin softball. As far as your Nostradamus prediction about how ulala upgrading their facilities & heading to the Big 12 (yeah right), that is idiotic. They can upgrade their facilities, win lower level bowl games, & compete for Sunbelt championships till the cows come home but that won't change squat about LSU & their status in this state or the nation. These upgrades & sunbelt trophies are cute but if you haven't noticed, LSU is doing a little upgrading of it's own & is still considered a national powerhouse competing in the toughest division & conference in the nation. Ulala is experiencing some success, & good for their student athletes but it wasn't long ago that another state school, Tulane, thought they were on the heels of big brother with an undefeated season in football, wins against LSU in baseball, & trips to Omaha. Look at them now, same place as ulala, in LSU's rear view mirror.
These smaller schools have their ups & downs & have some special moments but don't come in here acting like adding some seats to Cajun field(which will probably be empty considering they couldn't sell out their capacity before) & a good year in baseball, a few weeks into the season, is reason for LSU to even remotely concern themselves with ulala. Let them enjoy their success but don't come here looking for a "pissing contest".

Solid post, the Baylor/Louisivile/UCF examples are on point. I think it is a good thing to have a growing in-state competitor. Rising tide raises all ships.

You're comparing Baylor, a very wealthy private school in Texas to ULL? Louisville has been a solid basketball program for as long as I can remember. Their football team is really not that good; they play nobody. We'll find out how "good" they really are when they start playing their ACC schedule. This coupled with Kentucky sucking at football has given the Cardinals and inflated sense of worth. UCF? Compare the population of Central Florida with South Louisiana. Not every kid in the Sunshine State can go to Florida or Free Shoes University.

In your fiction story this a.m. - you failed to mention how usl is cleaning our plow in recruiting - don't u think that is WWE type info for the conjoins? Pretty soon I guess your football coach would become the 6th highest paid coach in Louisiana - behind several of our "private" type high school corches.

I don't get ULL trying to compete with LSU. Just do your own thing. This is an LSU board. I get pride and all. I have pride for Louisiana but my team is LSU. I don't hate or pull against ULL or SLU. When SLU made the play off i pull for them. ULL seems to have a complex with LSU.LSU is a top school in the nation in every major sport. Just work to get better.

Look at it this way

Does anyone outside of Lafayette and New Iberia give a crap about ULL? No

LSU still has more fans in those two cities than ULL does.

The fact that LSU outnumbers their only two "major" markets, puts this thread to rest.

Good for ULL for increasing the Teague, they can make real cash doing that. But the football stadium? They don't come close to selling out what they have now, and now they are expanding?

ULL never sells out at home games in football and most games there are plenty of empty seats

Incorrect for the past 3 seasons. Attendance rose over 100% in that time IIRC and the stadium only seats 30K.

There were thousands of upper deck seats and thousands scattered open for the ULM game that would have clinched the Sun Belt for them.

And before you throw out the fact that LSU games have the same problem, it's a different situation.

this seems extremely little brotherish to worry about ULL just because they have one good basketball and baseball season while we are floundering for our standards

sell outs and attendance are two different things.

The Cajuns' five phase plan is to expand Cajun Field by doubling the capacity to 62,304

I just honestly don't see how they can justify doubling their seating capacity when they can't even sell out what the capacity stands at now. Aside from the past 3 seasons, their attendance at football games has been an absolute joke.
