Bartman got a 2016 World series ring from the Cubs. Has any fan ever got a ring?
Posted on 10/22/18 at 11:32 am to WestCoastAg
He did nothing wrong, and was vilified for it.
Posted on 10/22/18 at 11:34 am to RogerTempleton
Yeah. The Astros gave a lot of fans rings.

Has any fan had to go through the life changing shite he had to go through?

It’s been 15 years already! Damn I feel old, I was a junior in high school. I was so happy the Marlins came back and won but I felt so bad for Bartman. He didn’t deserve that because all the other fans in the area were doin the same thing trying to get the ball.

Feel bad for him
Yeah, and he was a loyal fan who would go to many games every year from the time he was a little kid. How he was vilifed for doing what any die hard fan would do in his position still roils me to this day. Not his fault that the Cubs allowed the Marlins to score 4+ runs right after that...in the same inning

If Bartman had run on to the field and gotten in Moises Alou's way, you'd have an accurate comparison, but he didn't.

And less than 15 days ago was this:

I mentioned that earlier in the thread. No one turned on that guy. The thought never even occurred to me.

And then lost the next night

It’s always easier to blame one person instead of an entire team.
Especially when the guy looks like this:
In all seriousness he does seem like a good dude. If you’re a sports fan this is definitely a “damn, could have been me...” story. Hard to believe that was 15 years ago.

It’s actually pretty incredible that Bartman has pretty much disappeared from the face of the earth. Wonder if he changed his name. Obviously had to do a lot of work to stay hidden This day and age that’s hard to do
He still lives in the Chicago area. His family, friends, neighbors all respect his privacy and help him maintain it. But shite, if he wanted to come out of the shadows he wouldn't be attacked. People would want the opportunity to apologize.
I'll never forget that game. My buddy and I lived right behind Bernie's in Wrigleyville and were partying in our place through the 8th. Decided we wanted to be there when they won so we walked over then. It was crazy after...probably close to 75 thousand people all walking home in stunned silence. They still had a chance to win game 7 but it was like people knew it was a foregone conclusion at that point.

All Alex Gonzalez has to do is field the easiest double play ball ever instead he boots it.
Bartman had nothing to do with it. Just another excuse
That was always my position as well.

The cubs fans blaming Bartman is like if Astros fans would have ruined the life of the fan that interfered with Altuve’s Homerun. It never even occurred to me to be mad at that guy and a whole fricking city turned on bartman. frick Chicago for what they did to that guy.
I wouldn't equate the emotion in the stadium of the defending World Series champs to the emotion in the stadium of a team suffering a century of failure and being on the cusp of finally breaking through.
Not excusing any of the bullshite that cubs fans did to him, but they're hardly similar situations. Not to mention (and don't get offended here), but I wouldn't put Astros fans in the same category of Cubs fans in terms of how invested they are in the team.

I remember Steve Lyons saying “I’m surprised someone hasn’t thrown that fan on the field”. I did a double take to make sure I heard him right. And then I celebrated as the magical meltdown ensued.
The documentary did a good job of showing how complicit the ANNOUNCERS were and the TV broadcast in villifying Bartman and riling up the fans.
Nobody in the stadium knew jack shite that Bartman maybe cost Alou an out.
But the fricking announcers and Steve Lyons showed replay after replay and told the audience that Bartman interferred and cost the Cubs an out, etc...and then as that inning descended with other errors, they kept going back to Bartman as if Bartman was playing shortstop for the Cubs and booted the 3rd out.
And fans watching on TV outside the stadium called their buddies inside the stadium and that's when the fans in the stadium turned on Bartman because of what was relayed via the TV announcers by friends.
Lyons says in the doc, yeah maybe we didn't help the situation...no shite you jackass, you created the lynch mob, you incited violence...that is a crime in American law. You went on and on and on about Bartman as the inning went on and on. You accused him of costing the Cubs the game. They made him the story - not the game, the game became a backdrop...they'd show a pitch and then back to Bartman sitting there, show another pitch and then back to Bartman with his headphones on - talking about how he must feel potentially costing the Cubs a WS.

It was a bad situation for sure. And this was back before you could watch TV on your phone. So the thousands of people in the streets weren't actually watching the game. They just wanted to be there. Though there was one guy who had a battery operated 5 or 7 inch tv that he was holding on his head that people were watching (which was obviously behind what we were hearing from the stadium).
