He improved in the second half, but he's still pretty bad

At least we can all agree Ron Washington will do something stupid to the lineup.

Choo routinely has an OBP above 400
Idk if I would consider 2 times in 9 seasons routine but I get what you're saying. At the same time, I have to wonder if last year was a fluke. ~30 more walks in ~65 more PAs vs his 2nd best OBP season? Seems more like an outlier than an average.

It'll probably be a career high, but it's not completely abnormal fluctuation. He normally is around .390, right?

If you take out last season, .380.
He's an upgrade for Texas, no doubt. I just hate valuing a guy based off of a contract year, especially in a case like this one. His BA stayed virtually the same from the previous season but his OBP shot up 13%? Just throws up a flag. Other than walks (and OBP obviously) he didn't deviate much at all from his previous 8 season average.

So what? If you can't find a young hitter in your farm system who can put up a decent line against LHP and play a respectable OF for about 100 AB's, then your minor league system sucks. Choo will get around 550 ABs, barring injury, and his backup will get about 100 AB. But you want a young guy to get a look like that anyway.
Or you could sign some veteran righty slugger for about 1/$4 to be a power bat off the bench. Hell, sign Jeff Francoeur.
