I think you stated what needs to be fixed without realizing it.

I'm okay with it if the GPA isn't some arbitrary easily hittable number like 2.0 or something. Make it 3.5 or better showing they are at least making the effort in the schools. Also programs won't be so quick to do what they can to "fix" grades if they know there is a shot the kid can transfer out.

Murray state went to nit semi's. Led by soph joe fulks, future nba champ with phila, and nba scoring champ @27 pts per. Iowa took him. Only guy to win nba and scoring leader same season, until mj.

This seems like a bad idea because there's going to be a shite ton of transfers for every imaginable reason.

I think its a good idea to allow players to transfer if the head coach they signed on to play for leaves or gets fired. Not sure it would be a good idea to basically have a wide open free agency though.

This may not be as bad as some think. To counter the full potential of bad effects, the NCAA just needs to limit this to one transfer. If you transfer again you have to sit out. They have already required all scholarships be four years so you won't have situations where coaches are cutting guys just to get another one in.

Perfect example is Les Miles getting a check from LSU every last day of the month

I'll do you one better. A student can transfer schools whenever they want, if these players are really "student-athletes" why shouldn't they be allowed to transfer at will?

That said, this could/would kill some FCS teams.

I would hate it for college football. It would kill the smaller conferences when they find a good player. Smaller conferences would become a minor league for the power 5 schools. The amount of guys that would leave their school after their first year could be a lot. It would force schools to give early playing time to young players to keep them for transferring.

It actually may end recruiting from high school by the bigger programs. Why bring in a low 4* guy when you can say "go play at Toledo for a year or two, get reps and we'll bring you in in 2 years when you can help us from day 1"

It would certainly create some interesting scholarship choices.

I'm curious what rules will be included regarding "tampering." I could see a coach trying to get transfers from other schools to push them over the top and sacrifice a recruiting year of scholarships to do it.

I'm for baseball going back to letting players play immediately.

This is basically a given. Why would Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, etc. bother recruiting any high school player that isn't going to immediately see playing time? They'd recruit the 4-5 kids they see having an immediate impact out of high school and go to C-USA, or whatever, for the rest.

ETA: Image the tactics being used on those 4* players who are just need a year of development.

Meyer: "Hey, we don't really have a spot for you this year. Go play for Illinois or someone like that. I'll come get you next year."

I think you would see a lot of assistant coaches get hired away and try to recruit their former players to their next job. Some coaches are gonna get death threats when they take their players with them to their next school.

Schools should never be allowed to have a say in where the student goes.

They can transfer at will now--they just have to it out a year. This is an atrocious idea and would lead to utter chaos. Freshman would be transferring all over the place.

Players can leave school at will, but not without sitting out a year if they want to stay at FBS level.

Coaches can leave anytime they wish, and are not subject to the same rules

I agree with this if their position coach, coordinator, or head coach leaves.
