The NCAA may be considering a major rule change to the current Division-I transfer rules that would allow transfers to be eligible immediately. According to a new report from 247Sports, the NCAA, citing an anonymous source, may vote on allowing all Division-I transfers to be eligible to play immediately. The current requirement that athletes would have to sit out an entire year would be replaced by a GPA standard.

The only potential restrictions are that student-athletes would be asked to meet a minimum GPA, in order to transfer immediately, and that any additional transfer would require the student-athletes to sit out a full year. The proposal, which is being solicited among members for feedback, is gaining increased traction in recent weeks, a source confirms.

-Andrew Slater, 247Sports

The report goes on to say that granting immediate eligibility for transfers who make the minimum GPA requirement is “gaining traction amongst members,” and the legislation deadline is November 1.

Agreed, it won't happen. But it should.

If coaches can leave at a moments notice, with no regard to the contract they signed, the player should have some flexibility as well

I just think back to 01-06 as the absolute height of College Football, and cry myself to sleep knowing that it well never be that good again.

Big East showdowns on Thursday nights, Ohio State and Michigan being elite, USC being elite, Notre Dame somewhat being elite, LSU on the rise, Alabama being dog shite, etc.

It's funny. They lowered scholarship numbers to try and bring parity to CFB. Now, they're thinking about giving the top schools free reign to poach the best players from the smaller schools each year.

Not to mention every snowflake that doesn't win a starting job will transfer out to somewhere else.

Talk about a clusterfrick

Exactly what's wrong with transferring out?

Imagne Saban using this to bypass scholarship limits.

He needs a good kicker at the very least.

I would hate it for college football. It would kill the smaller conferences when they find a good player. Smaller conferences would become a minor league for the power 5 schools. The amount of guys that would leave their school after their first year could be a lot. It would force schools to give early playing time to young players to keep them for transferring.

If passed, I see this having unintended negative consequences.

I don't think players being able to switch schools willy nilly is a good idea.

You don't really care about the smaller conferences in college football. It's just something nice to say at the moment or when one of them beats a blue blood during the opening week. Come bowl season, you'll say that these smaller conference teams have no business playing in a NY6 game.

This already happens in CFB.

What about coaches being fired in week two or jumping for a job before/after a bowl game?

People complain about there only being 15 or 16 schools capable of competing for the NC, but this would halve that number. It would be the 50s and 60s all over again.

I honestly feel like people really wouldn't mind them going away and the rest of CFB becoming a semi-pro league.

I don't care about the small conferences but i do worry about keeping team continuity. One thing I like about cfb is that I pretty much never have to worry about an LSU player suiting up for Auburn.

That's exactly what it is right now. But with restrictions from the NCAA. TBH I want to see the NCAA burn to the ground and something with less restrictions come along. That way we can stop playing this stupid game about whats "fair" when we all know that big time college sports (Specifcally CFB) was never about fairness.

I'm so tired of this snowflake crap.

If someone has 4 or 5 years to play college football and doesn't want to spend those years riding the pine, why the frick should they stay?

That doesn't make them a snowflake.
