Loved Gordon just because the Bama redneck trash hated him

Something else about David … I of course never saw it with my own eyes, but I heard it from enough of the old-school writers to where I believe it sufficiently to repeat it … ain’t nobody in NASCAR history, not even Tim Richmond, who got more tail than the Silver Fox over the years. In fact, someone actually used the antiquated word “cocksman” to describe him. Take that as you will.

I can actually believe it.

And he'd probably smoke a heater after he was done.

He was a badass. Plain and simple. They don't make them like him anymore.

Kenny did in a recent interview go as far as saying he knew Dale was dead when he looked in the car.

I knew Dale was dead when I saw Kenny look into Dale's car.

You don't know a whole lot of facts about the incident, do you?

Terrible day, and 20 years on..Kyle Busch (the new bad boy who also wins a lot) had a crash that looked so similar. The hans and safer walls no doubt saved him but the movement his head still made probably give us a glimpse of what happened to dale.

Thing is, Earnhardt was just a few years away from retiring, and doing fun events like the 24 hours of Daytona etc.

I know he would be proud of Jr, and the person he became himself.

and never forget its not Senior and Junior, its Earnhardt and jr. (always loved that interview)

Yea if Dale didn’t die I think he would help make sure this chase bullshite doesn’t happen or most of the other retarded decision Nascar keeps doing are at least kept to a minimum. But his death did pave the way for a revolution in safety motor sports across the world. The Hanns device became mandatory in nascar and in f1 and the safer barriers that give way to reduce impact are used across the world as well. It’s a shame that a legend had to die for this safety revolution to happen but there have been dozens saved because of his death. But I do like to imagine a world where he doesn’t die and helps make sure NASCAR doesn’t lose their collective minds when Kenseth won the championship in 2002.

Yep.

And also he'd probably be amazed at the influence that he carries, even in retirement. He IS NASCAR. I think he'll be at worst the competition director by the end of the decade.

His death wasn't in vain.

We still have Gordon(almost the exact same type of wreck) and Newman due to his sacrifice.

I always wondered why he named himself after LSU’s baseball billboard.

That was 2003 not 2002.

Tony Stewart won in 2002.

Can’t believe it’s been 22 years; seems like yesterday.

With that said, Gordon was better. #24

It’s 2023. If you’re gay just say you’re gay. You don’t have to be a Jeff Gordon fan anymore.

I came here to ask because of that comment. Am I correct that he was NOT driving a race car without a seatbelt. He just was not using the head restraint that was then optional for drivers.

Still amazing. One of the most visually dull wrecks captured. Yet it was the most devastating to an entire sport and physically one man. I do get the basic physics and he did go from about 190 to 0 in about half a second.

I remember it like it was yesterday. That weekend was that I started shift work. I got up a little late to watch the race and had leave before it was over . My dad (rip) sent me a page and then another with 911. I called him and he told me. I was crushed. I’d grown up watching NASCAR and Dale was Superman. It’s hard to believe it’s been 22 years.
