The best CFB era ever?

Was this the mecca of college football? I obviously cherry picked, but its 90% the BCS era.
The 10 years from 97-06 (the first 9 yrs of the BCS) we saw 10 different national champions.
I dont think that's ever happened in the history of college football.
Of course Nick Saban came along and ruined everything, but will we ever see this kind of parity again?

I think about this often. It’s impressive what he did, butt he’s also a huge cocksucker for corporatizing the whole thing, secretly paying players, and then discarding them like trash when he’s done with them. And it makes it extra annoying because that back-woods, sister-fricking, broke-dick, trailer-trash fan base doesn’t deserve any of the success he brought to that program.

I think 2000's were probably the best. Every Conference was involved and had a say in the MNC...or at least had very good teams and then you had darkhorses like Boise State and newcomers like Oregon.
But you had USC, LSU, Oklahoma, Miami, Ohio State, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan (was still good), Wazzu had some great teams, Penn State, West Virginia, Louisville, Mizzou, Kansas, VaTech, Utah, Texas, TCU, Cincy...all those teams finished at one point in time at the end of the year in the Top 5 or Top 10. Shite fricking Cal (Aaron Rodgers) and Oregon St. finished in the Top 10 and Top 5 respectively one year.
It was a true national sport still. Teams played different styles based on region. Now most everyone plays Big12 football on offense.
Still partial to the 80's but Miami sort of owned that like Bama in the 2010s.

Agreed, almost every single blue blood/fringe blue blood was good at some point. Ohio State, Michigan USC, Texas, Miami, Florida State, LSU Oklahoma, etc. Was just a more fun time to be a cfb fan.

I am not sure what was worse for the sport, the creation of these big superconferences or the gradual rules changes that changed the intensity of the game. First it was kickoffs, then the targeting, and now it seems to favor pass happy teams.
Also I would guess that the during that time any team in the top 15 could give a game to any of the other teams. Since the playoff started there’s always a big drop off from the top 8ish to the rest of the ranked teams

Back when the cotton, fiesta, and orange bowls were all played at their traditional stadiums rather than boring suburban works of art.

I miss having the smaller regional conferences.

My era stretches longer than 10 years. I'd say from around 1985 to about 2010. In that time frame you had it all, everything from Boz and the Sooners, Catholics vs Convicts, Nebraska's run, Wide Right, Bowden, Spurrier, Peyton Manning, Pete Carroll at USC, the Bush Push, etc. Just so many memories, until the Dark Times came. Saban really has sucked the fun out of CFB.

Well, to be fair, that's all they have.

The 90’s, before LSU fans became so spoiled and insecure. A win like Herb Tyler and the Tigers upsetting #1 Florida was something that would sustain your fandom for years. Now, a depleted LSU team upsets #6 Florida, and we cry about it like spoiled babies.

70’s and 80’s were better.
