The Best Case Scenario for Conference Realignment

SEC
Existing Members - LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Miss State, South Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Missouri and Vandy.
New Members - Texas, Oklahoma, Florida State, Clemson, NC State and Virginia Tech
Big Ten (or whatever it's called at this point)
Existing Members - Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota, Northwestern, Illinois, Maryland and Rutgers.
New Members - USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, Stanford, North Carolina and Virginia.
Big 12
Existing Members - Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State, West Virginia and Iowa State.
New Members - UCF, Cincinnati, Houston, BYU, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Utah, Miami, Pittsburgh and Louisville.
Everyone in the ACC gets a spot except for Duke, Wake, Syracuse, Georgia Tech and Boston College. Duke, Wake, Syracuse and Boston College can follow the UConn model, go to the Big East for all sports besides football and then for football either form a football only conference, go Independent, try to join the American or just shut down their football programs. Georgia Tech is in a tough position, they probably have to go down to the American. They probably should also go to the Big East for all other sports and shut down their football program but they won't do that.
Everyone in the Pac-12 gets a spot except for Arizona State, Washington State, Oregon State and Cal. Arizona State, Washington State and Oregon State most likely join the Mountain West. Cal most likely just shuts down their football program and moves their other sports to the West Coast Conference.

I know many here will question my opinion of the SEC taking NC State and Virginia Tech over UNC and UVA. First of all the SEC shouldn't take anyone who has the SEC as their second choice.
UNC and UVA are arrogant and we all know they want the Big Ten first. The SEC is their second choice.
Besides that though UNC and UVA are basketball first schools. They are also snobby elite schools that get a lot of their student population from the northeast. UVA in particular is essentially full of students who UVA was their back up from the Ivy League as well as sons and daughters of the DC elite.
UNC and UVA are not a good cultural fit for the SEC. Say what you want but Texas and Oklahoma are no doubt football schools first and foremost and a good cultural fit for the SEC. UNC and UVA are basketball schools.
NC State and Virginia Tech are far more of a cultural fit for the SEC. You still get into North Carolina and Virginia but with football schools. Never mind Virginia Tech is really more of the state school than Virginia.
I know UNC and UVA will get their chance to say no but I think NC State and Virginia Tech are the better choices for the SEC.

VT and NC St would be great additions. They're the top football brands in their states.

I think the best scenario at this point is to merge it all under one “conference”. That way you can create regional divisions again within that “conference.”
I’d like to see a 48 team D1 and D2 with 4 12-team divisions in D1 and 6 8-team divisions in D2:
3 of the D1 divisions would be regional (south, north, and west) containing top programs who always stay in D1. The last D1 division is national and exists to allow the best teams from D2 to “play up” in D1.

Most people would look down on the Big 10 as beneath us.

Sec shouldn’t take anyone just to take them either. I’d rather no more schools for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, SEC is getting too big. I don’t like it for CFB period. Conferences were fun.
Having other strong conferences was fun. OU/TX was the Big 12.
ACC needs to be viable; so does PAC 10, Big 10 and Big 12.
Takes some fun out of it when we end up with 2 huge conferences.
If you HAVE to take OU and TX; lose 2. Looking at you Mizzou.

ND isn't joining a conference unless forced to do so.

It's a social thing, I really don't think people will want to be associated with schools Ohio State.

Pac is gone and the ACC is probably next. The best case scenario is your team finds a conference and the Big12 puts it to playing football and puts out a champion in the next 5 years before it implodes to two

With the 12 team playoff coming won’t it matter less and less what conference you’re in if it can be reasonably assumed that every undefeated and one loss conference champion team in the country will be in the CFP? (No matter how weak you think their schedule may be)
Of course the money matters but 12 teams will be the fairest system ever for every conference

NC State and VT brings nothing to the SEC. boring and mediocre sporting brands.
UVa brings nothing to the B1G. they need to expand into florida and also get Notre dame.
Also the ACC is more likely to absorb the Big 12, than the other way around.

College football is getting so stupid.

It’s been stupid, now it’s accelerating.

This may be the dumbest suggestion yet. Drop football??

So they bring more money, eyeballs, and power to the conference? If so, who cares who’s a first or second choice

Regional alignments and rivalries are what made college football meaningful to fans. Creating mega conferences solely for profit are making college football irrelevant.

Agreed, unless they make the mega conference so huge, they have to go back to divisions/pods that are geographically based.
