I wouldn't be surprised to see a .275/.378/.455 type of season out of him

He sounds Denard Span-ish. Doesn't have much power and speed is just good enough. I wonder why he didn't play any ball last year.

Our friends at Amazin' Avenue have more info on Toscano's profile as a hitter:

quote:

Toscano's biggest strength is his eye at the plate. Since becoming a regular starter in the 49th Serie Nacional, the 25-year-old has maintained an on-base percentage of .417 over 682 trips to the plate. With only 13 career regular-season home runs, it is evident that Toscano works for his walks and is not pitched around on account of his power. Putting his on-base percentage in context however, it must be noted that an on-base percentage above .400 is not exceptionally rare in Cuba: At no point during his career has Toscano ever ended a season among the league leaders in the statistic. In fact, he has never even led his team in the category, ranking tenth on the Naranjas in the 49th Serie Nacional and second overall in the 50th and 51st series.

Per DOB, being looked at as a 4th OF candidate.

We won't really know what we have in him till spring training I suppose.

Only downside is it would severely limit the return if teams are forced to take CJ.

If the Cubbies land Lester, they will be looking for an Impact bat.

Would love to get some prospects from them,.

@Buster_ESPN: Some teams that have walked away from talks with the Braves are convinced they are keeping Evan Gattis into 2015.

@Ken_Rosenthal: Spoke with #Braves’ Hart. Adamant about keeping JUp/Gattis unless he gets exactly what he wants. Could add SP, 2B and go for it instead.

No fear guys. We just signed Alberto Callaspo. We now have our missing link at 2b OR 3b!!!!

The #Braves are attempting to complete a deal with INF Alberto Callaspo.

Alberto Callaspo was the only player in MLB with on-base and slugging percentages below .300 and at least 450 plate appearances this year.

Bob Nightengale @BNightengale
The #Braves told one American League team that if they want Evan Gattis, they have to take BJ Upton too.

Had a terrible 2014, but another signing of a low strikeout guy.

Continuing to change the offensive mindset of this team.
