The #Braves told one American League team that if they want Evan Gattis, they have to take BJ Upton too.
Likely the Rangers. They didn't want to include a top pitching prospect so were like thennnnn, you gotta take on BJ.

Had a terrible 2014, but another signing of a low strikeout guy.
Continuing to change the offensive mindset of this team.
You don't always have to be a sunshine pumper for the Barves, Swamps. It's ok to disagree with Hart every once in a while.
Callaspo is awful. Let's not try to polish a turd here.

If BJ gets his head on straight, and lights a fire under his arse...him coming around could be the largest boost to the Braves no matter who they sign
Posted on 12/9/14 at 3:26 pm to RollDatRoll
He had a decent 2013 season. But you act like this signing is going to make a big difference either way. He'll be a fine stop gap for a few months till Peraza is up.
Who did you want to sign?

MAkes sense to me. I'm tired of watching 10+ strikeout games. Its not like loading the roster with high K guys was working for us. we're probably gonna suck anyways next year, so I rather watch contact over K's

Thanks, Vol.
Who did I want the Braves to sign? Someone better than Callaspo I guess. I don't see how Callaspo helps.

Any 1 year stop gap at a shallow position that could be had for cheap wasn't going to impress you. Let's be honest.

So you are fine with a .230/.290/.290 slash line as long as he doesn't k a lot?

The problem was not strikeouts. It was that we had too many bad hitters and did not draw walks.
We led the league in OPS for the first half of 2013 while we were on pace to break the MLB record for strikeouts.
Then Fredi said we needed to start "making contact" because leading the league in OPS wasn't going to be good enough for the playoffs, I guess.

Dude, he's awful.
I'd rather Gosselin start until Peraza gets the call than pay anything for Callaspo.

It does? I have read this sentence about 5 times and still am not sure I understand what it means

And Gosselin certainly might. But a Callaspo signing does not hurt this team, whether you want to believe it or not. He can play multiple positions and will be a decent player off the bench.
I think you guys love to bitch just for the sake of bitching.

thats not what I said...I was just saying I understand why they would want to get rid of high K guys like CJ, BJ, etc.

It means shitty hitters are still shitty hitters whether they strike out or make contact and get out

I guess its like Paradise lost, makes more sense reading it when someone tells you what it means.

So you think Fredi's quote through off everyone's mojo?

I bitch mostly because I hate the direction of this team so far. It isn't just to bitch. If you want me to get excited over adding arguably the worst hitter in the league last year and the worst rp in the league last year, then I'm not your guy.
Posted on 12/9/14 at 3:46 pm to K9
No. I think Walker/Fletcher were instructed to preach that weak contact is better than no contact.
Posted on 12/9/14 at 3:53 pm to volfan30
Idk. I think most of roster were just bad hitters, and I don't think it was Walker/Fletch/ or Gonzalez fault.
