Like Vol said awhile back, Uggla can probably decline

I think the way it works is you DFA him and then he would most likely refuse, so you either have to trade him within ten days or release him. He can't refuse being released, but we would still have to pay him.
quote:
A player who is designated for assignment is immediately removed from the team's 40-man roster, after which the team must either:
-return the player to the 40-man roster within 10 days from the date of designation, or
make one of the following contractual moves:
1. Place the player on waivers (which can only be done within the first 7 days of the 10-day period)
2. Trade the player
3. Release the player
4. Outright the player from the 40-man roster into the Minor Leagues
quote:
Typically a player is placed on waivers after being designated for assignment for the purpose of outrighting him to one of the club's minor league teams. A player who is outrighted to the triple A is removed from the 40-man roster but is still paid according to the terms of his guaranteed contract. A player can only be outrighted once in his career without his consent. However, a player must clear waivers (that is, no other team may place a waiver claim on the player) to be sent to a minor league team. Also, if the player has five or more full years of major league service, he must give consent to be assigned to the minors. If the player withholds consent, the team must either release him or keep him on the major league roster. In either case, the player must continue to be paid under the terms of his contract.

To get rid of him we are going to have to eat a shitload of his salary regardless. Hopefully we can get somebody a little productive back.

Yeah I know, but having on the team is hurting the team and I can't imagine we get anything of value for him unless we are basically paying his whole salary plus providing something else. Also, see my edit above about how DFAing works.

Maybe someone will trade for him near the deadline, but like I said, I doubt we would get anything decent back and I don't know if I would want to keep him on the roster that long.

Uggla can refuse a minor league assignment, but that's it.

And he isn't a 10-and-5 guy, so we can trade him to anyone who will take him if that option presents itself.

Our offense is awful. Apparently Fredi wants to shake up the lineup which I'm cool with. We need to do something. He is worried about moving TLS to 2nd and having 3 lefties in a row. Does he worry too much about balance?
LINK
Also, it's obvious that Alex Wood is better suited for the rotation than the bullpen. He was dominant in 6 of 7 starts to begin the year. He isn't happy in the bullpen. How long before he is back starting for us?

Far more important to have good hitters than worry about balance. LaStella is pretty much perfect for the #2 spot once he's ready. He'll work the count (allowing Heyward to steal if he has good chances) and put the ball in play and walk a ton. LaStella has also had fairly even splits in the minors overall, and Freddie hits lefties very well. So I don't think the lefty/righty thing will be a huge deal.
On a side note, if Freddie is that worried about three lefties in a row he can move Heyward down, not like Jason is raking in the #1 spot anyway this year.
Maybe something like:
1. BJ
2. LaStella
3. Freddie
4. Justin
5. Heyward
6. Gattis
7. Johnson
8. Simba

Swap Heyward and Gattis
Swap BJ and Simba and that's the lineup I'd like to see

Yeah, Simba is a horrible choice for the top of the lineup. Shouldn't be anywhere but 7th or 8th in this lineup, preferably 8th.
He's nothing but a flyball and ground ball machine right now, which would be terrible at the top of the order. GIDP central.

Can't put him at 2 either.

But you'd be ok with BJ leading off?
Anyways who do y'all think we pick in the draft?

BJ brings good speed and a solid walk rate to the top of the order. He can score from 1st base on doubles and get a lot of steals with LaStella hitting behind him. It would also provide a bunch of hit and run opportunities with a high contact hitter like LaStella in the #2 spot. Simba is a terrible base runner, and could do none of the above. What exactly do you think Simba brings to the table that would make him good in the top two spots of the batting order?
BJ is not a great choice, but he's okay if Fredi insists on not having three lefties at the top of the order. I would personally go either:
Heyward
LaStella
Freddie
Justin
or:
Heyward
LaStella
Justin
Freddie
at the top of the lineup.
