So Freddie to the Dodgers 6/160. So either he really didn’t want to be a Brave. Or he and his agent seriously misjudged his market. He’d have probably ended up with more money after taxes with the rumored 5/140 AA offered.
Oh well, he’s the enemy now.

It's going to suck watching him being forced down our throats because he plays for the Dodgers now.

That tells me he really wasn’t interested in staying a Brave or that he was that adamant over a 6th year. Most likely, his wife told him she was done living in Atlanta.

Chipper spoiled us. He wasn't from Georgia (though close enough) and grew up a Dodgers fan. But still reworked his contract multiple times to remain a Brave. The GOAT.

Braves offered Freddie 5 years and $140 and he didn't sign it.
They couldn't work out a deal with AA's famous... "club option" for year #6?
I think it's pretty clear Freddie and his camp felt Freddie was going to command 6 years and $180-$200 in the open market and my other guess is, the hope was to leverage that kind of contract from the Braves by pitting their last offer against others.
5 years and $140 on the table from the team you lead, won a WS and MVP with and have been with forever....
And you end up with 6 years and $162 from the enemy and a 13% state income tax.
Ok.
Best of luck to Freddie. He's still a legendary Brave... it's gonna suck playing against him in the playoffs (unless we beat 'em lol)

So he's paying 7% more state tax on half that income.
And there is this: The cost of living in Los Angeles, CA is 40.7% higher than in Atlanta, GA.
Even though thats for a normal person and would probably only affect a portion of his income; He's essentially breaking even in total money and is at less annual value.
He WANTED to go to California. I don't fault him. He's from there. But lets not pretend like AA/Braves broke his heart here.

Mmmmm, I think his WIFE wanted to go to California. I briefly mentioned it in one of my long arse posts earlier in a list of reasons that Freddie could actually use his own (or his wife’s) free will and choose to leave—that we fans are not entitled to him being a life-long Brave, and that if he left, it didn’t default to AA or anybody in the Braves organization having fricked up. Not knowing her background, I casually suggested maybe Chelsea wanted to get into the entertainment industry.
But then I looked her up. to see where she was from (Florida, I think—think they met in Spring Training while she was going to UCF) and noticed how much more plasticky she looks now. Also saw she was a former model (I think), has a clothing line (I think), was maybe a successful realtor (?). Not that any of those are bad, she just seems pretty ambitious and a little high maintenance (Dale Murphy—poster, not player—and I were talking about that Tuesday) and probably had MUCH more say in this decision than we may have thought. Like maybe all of it.

Yep, and maybe playing in front of family did weigh in on his decision. But I'm not buying the "he's getting older and wants to be closer to home" bit. Dude is 32. Will be 38 when this contract is over and will have made enough money that several generations of his future family won't have to worry about money. This isn't an old dog going back home to die surrounded by family.
But like it has been said in this thread, it doesn't matter what his reasoning was. He didn't want to play in Atlanta as much as Atlanta wanted him back. So he's gone. And since we now have to hate all things LAD, he's part of the enemy now.

Jon Heyman @JonHeyman A couple of the losing bids for Freddie Freeman: Braves $140M, 5 years, Rays about $150M, 6 years. Red Sox also were in, so 3 GMs (including the winning Dodgers; $162M, 6) with Rays history all were in.

@billplunkettocr: #Dodgers Dave Roberts on Freddie Freeman: "Had a chance to chat with him a little bit last night, and I don’t know if I’ve come across a guy — whether it be a trade or a call-up — that was as excited as Freddie Freeman was to be a Dodger."
I keep getting the feeling that he was never considering a return to ATL. Looking forward to rage-watching his introductory press conference.

Meh, the saga went out with a whimper so that might just be for the benefit of everyone on the LA end to try and reinforce the idea that they "won"
