I wonder what happened behind the scenes. Did the Braves let Freddie in on this trade? Did they get his blessing to move on? Or has Freddie been blindsided by this?

Olsen may be able to replace Freddie’s numbers, but the intangibles, the heart and soul of the team element Freddie brought, will be tough to replace.

I heard a theory on 680 a few minutes ago that Freddie told the Braves that he was gonna take the Dodgers deal but wanted to hold off until the Braves got Olsen out of respect.

SteelerBravesDawg after the world series: The Braves can't let Freddie go, trust AA, he will get it done.

SteelerBravesDawg now: The Braves had to let Freddie go, AA got it done.

C'mon dude, it's fine to be ok with this trade, but you've been talking out of both sides of your mouth since day one. Contrary to popular belief, AA can make mistakes, he's human. This may ultimately not be a mistake, but let the record show that you took both sides on this Freddie stuff, so don't act all high and mighty on here every time Olsen hits a home run like you do with Riley.

I think it is probably the opposite. Both sides knew they weren't going to get to a comfortable deal, and Freddie did the Braves a solid holding off announcing he was going back to cali to allow them to get a deal done.

Still a shitty day though just from a fan standpoint.

Brah I came to the conclusion a while ago(after that conversation) that there was a good chance he wasn't coming back and I said as much last week in another thread.

So GTFO w/that noise. Like I said if you don't trust AA by now then you never will

Why would they give Freddie a heads up? So he can get out and front and sign with the Dodgers and give the A’s more leverage?

The goal was to strike first here whether you’re AA or Freeman imo.

why do they need to tell Freeman if they know he's not coming back? You are making assumptions being pissed.

Eh. AA or any other GM can't deal in sentimentality. If Freddie was being slow on making a decision then AA had to move on to keep the club competitive.

Olson is in Arb next year and is a UFA the year after. I think Langliers is a stud and we will be feeling this deal in the future even if Freddie ends up declining. What I think a lot of people are missing though is that with the DH you can give Freddie more days where he just hits and manage his health better. The value of these positionally limited guys just effectively went up.

If what we were willing to offer was way lower, fine. if its close to the same AAV with an extra year, bad deal IMO

This whole thing, while it may turn out fine, doesn't feel very good right now. No matter how you try to spin it, you are losing the next Chipper Jones. I get the sentimentality argument, I get the age argument and the Pujols comparisons, and I understand this is a business, but this just feels shitty. Freeman was the one guy who they kept during the miserable sell-off years who was your 'team' guy. There has to be SOME kind of gratitude left in baseball, even if it is a tiny amount.

The Braves are dumping four good prospects for a 28 yr old who will be under team control for two years when you could have resigned Freeman, albeit for a lot more money. Realistically what happens when that two years is up? Olson going to give AA a hometown discount? He got a steal on Albies and Acuna. That isn't going to happen again. They will be right back in this spot again with Olson in two years, who will then be 30, but minus a really good catching prospect and Pache (who can't hit for shite but in time may get better).

I guess we will see in time.

Bad take.

Ummm I didn’t suggest they deal in sentimentality. Maybe my take was bad but you wouldn’t know because it clearly went over your head.

No, I understood you perfectly.

But nothing will take the shine off of a fricking World title. That banner flies forever.

The Braves can actually be a better team now b/c they have more $$$ to be able to sign Dansby & Fried and to bring Soler back.

So where did I suggest they deal in sentimentality?

It’s like you went to reply to a different post but accidentally clicked under my name. Talk about a bad take.
