We are a contender because we'll be in the playoffs, but I wouldn't bet a cent on us making it to the WS.

This team, offensively, is so bad when they’re bad it’s hard to describe. And it’s always everyone, all at the same time.
But we just handed AJSS and Reynaldo Lopez the starts vs the AL’s best and said “we got to have you”. When NEITHER one of these dudes should be starting for a contender down the stretch. Now our other running-on-copium starter is out (Elder)…
It’s a miracle we have a lead at all.

Their lineup has the same hot and cold problem as the Braves have, and they have been through multiple mudslides this year that have prompted their fanbase to say "this lineup is pathetic", "we suck", "this team is a joke", "this team has quit".
And I've watched people in this thread say the same things about this team, and every time we slump, they say that the Phillies will run away with the division, only to watch the lead balloon right back to 8 or 9 games, and then comes the slump, and the cycle just repeats itself.
Here's the deal: We're a flawed team. Our offense can be hard to watch. But there are lots of flawed teams, and these overreactions consistently fail to take into account the problems that other teams have, and why we have one of the best records in baseball. We're probably not going to win the World Series, but we probably weren't going to win it in 2021, either. So let's try to take a deep breath and avoid melting at every sign of trouble. I'm as annoyed as any of you when I watch this offense, I promise you. I'm not asking anyone to pretend it isn't a problem. I'm just puzzled at how people refuse to learn from their past meltdowns and exercise some restraint from throwing in the towel.

I don't particularly care about problems other teams have. I care about problems the Braves have.

That might seem to you like sound logic, but the fact of the matter is that if you're going to say that team X is going to run away with the division, as the person I replied to is saying, because of our team's problems, it is not possible to logically make any such statement without evaluating what problems team X has. I was told the Phillies were going to run away with the division three months ago. Then the lead went up to nine games. Now it's down to three, and once again, the Phillies are apparently going to run away with the division.
And as far as the rest of the league goes, they've all got problems, and a lot of them have to do with their offenses. The Dodgers, with their eleventy billion dollar roster, either score 15 runs or get shut out. They have the most misleading offensive stats because they get really hot, and then really cold. They have all this great starting pitching, but guys are always getting hurt, just like the Braves. I can run down the whole list of contenders, but the story gets redundant.
I well said in my post that I'm not asking anyone to ignore our problem on offense. I'm not calling for sunshine and roses. We all have a right to be frustrated with certain things. I am specifically calling out the ease of which people just throw up their hands and give up, despite all the times they've been proven wrong this season.

I think this is a continuation of what everyone (except the front office, seemingly) has seen for the last three seasons. This offense has been flat out bad and there is no end in sight. This core needs to be blown up and that probably needed to happen going into this season.
