re: The Angel Reese "mebounds" myth dispelled

I mean it’s what the thread is about. I’d like to look into if the stat(54 mebounds) is accurate or not.
It seems like it could be way off, but I don’t want to sit here and be wrong about something.

It would be hard for it to be off unless they just weren't counting shots by her which would be blatantly obvious. People bet real money on the games and every shot and every rebound and turnover is all tracked. Someone did the math last year and she was around 9%.
Sit down and watch an entire game and count rather than relying on twitter highlights specifically clipped to show when she got her own rebounds.

I’m going to do just that, although Twitter clips can be helpful, especially when she gets 4+ in a matter of seconds. That gif I posted isn’t even close to the only time that sequence has played out.

It was an exceptionally bad game for her. Its from the 2nd game of the year last season when she shot 0-8 from the field and all the misses and rebounds are right there on the play by play log on espn accurately counted.
You gotta realize its not the official box score trying to deceive you and is instead the guy posting year a half old clips in the past week

If doc posted she had 100 mebounds last year I’d probably not think twice about it. If she was close to this year’s numbers, then man, something seems fishy.

It’s a reliable source. Regardless, how does one clip from last season shed any light on the counting stats from this season?

OK, but that is total rebounds. What percentage of her offensive rebounds are mebounds? You didn't list this, but the number is just shy of 30% of her offensive rebounds this season are mebounds.
Not really something to brag about. She shoots 80% of her shots from 5 ft or less and misses more than 50% of those, making her one of the worst shooters in the league from that range.
I don't give a frick how good she is at rebounding. Until she can make a fricking layup consistently, she is useless.

Why are ya'll even trying to convince him? He wants to believe something despite the evidence. You can't fix willful ignorance.

SEE. This one can't even understand the original chart that a 2nd grader could grasp. You might as well be trying to explain something to a leaf.

30% of offensive rebounds off of someone's own missed shot does not seem inordinately high to me. Do you have a comparison of the offensive rebounds by other top rebounders rebounding their own misses?

Self-Rebound % = Self Rebounds / Total Rebounds After analyzing the data, here’s what I found to be true: *Angel Reese is in the 99th percentile among frontcourt players for both self-rebound % (Mean = 3.7%, Angel = 8.5%) and self-rebounds per game (Mean = .197/g, Angel = 1.12/g). *She’s also in just the 6th percentile for 2-point field goal percentage (Mean = 49.6%, Angel = 41.0%), so she misses a lot around the rim and has more chances to rebound herself. *In a chart of Self-Rebound % vs Rebounds per Game (slide 1), she’s in the top right corner. She rebounds a lot, and a big chunk of that is her own misses. *In Self-Rebound % vs 2pt FG% (slide 2), there isn’t much of a trend overall, but Angel sits alone in the bottom right with low shooting percentage and a very high share of rebounds from her own missed shots.
This is also using what I would call favorable classification of traditional rebounds vs mebounds. We're not going to agree on that but she's in a league of her own with her rate of mebounds vs traditional anyway you slice it.

She's not a great shooter, but she rebounds more of her misses than pretty much everyone else does. That's a good thing.
Do you think it's a positive for a post player to not rebound their own misses?

Yes, if you're going to be arse as professional basketball player at making shots inside of 5 feet, you better get the fricking ball back

idk i'd rather have a post player just put it in the hole the first time at a high %

Of course. But the notion that Angel's offensive rebounds are a bad thing is just silly.
She's an All-Star, on the national team and is currently:
1st in Rebounds
18th in PPG
3rd in Steals
25th (tied) in Blocks
She's not an MVP level player, but she's a very good one.

I'm not sure why you can't grasp the first graph I posted. It completely disproves your theory.
