I'm not a fan, but it's an old course that can't acquire more real estate. They can lengthen it enough for the modern game, so the only way to go is convert par 5s to 4.

Rory said it was going to be easy
No he didnt. Bomb and gouge does not mean easy or hard. It’s just a way a course plays

Many us open setups now do this as well and it doesn’t mean it’s easy

The US Open is required to play at par 70. The only exception is Pebble which plays par 71 for the open. I love par 70; fewer cheap birdies.

Why does it matter? it could be a par 68 and it wouldn't make a difference in who wins

the greens at this place are super elite, they are incredible. I love this course.

I can’t remember the exact quote, but No Laying Up was talking about it on their pod. Donald Ross basically said “I didn’t know I was this good until I finished it.”

First Andy North and now Curtis Strange. ESPN going to the TV veterans this week. I'm having flashbacks of my younger days.

I like the scoring opportunities from the par 5s, or the punishment for not playing them well. I love when guys go for an eagle opportunity on the big stages. In the end, it doesn't really matter, all playing the same course, but back 9 scoring on Sunday is fun to see. Save the grind for the US Open.

I see Wyndham is 5 over. Somebody alert the locker room attendants.

Rory just smoked a tee box with his driver after a miss

I hope Higgo enjoyed that pre-round poop. He would have been -2 thru 16 with a kick in birdie coming at 17 right now if not for that 2-stroke penalty.

Fairway bunkers here are kind of nasty, most have huge lips on them.

I know he has a lifetime exemption, but when is Shaun Micheel going to hang it up? He's had so many health problems (major heart issues) and he hasn't made the cut at the PGA since 2011. His finishes have been +8, +10, +23, +13, +17, +9, +14, +2, +8, +11, +3, +9, +12, +11.

He's played in 1 Tour event the last 7 years not named the PGA Championship. He hasn't had full status on Tour in 15 years. Oddly enough, his only Tour victory in his career is the PGA Championship. He's 57 years old and barely plays on the Champions Tour. He's been playing a couple events a year the past few years.

Love the guy, His PGA Championship trophy is actually displayed at the club I grew up playing just outside Memphis where he's still technically a member, but just seems like it's been past time to quit playing in this thing regardless of whether he's eligible or not. Today, he's +7.

Augusta National sends letters to Masters Champions in this situation, politely suggesting that they confine their activities during the week to the dinner and the par 3.

I hope he is channeling young Jordan and he and Scotty duel it out on Sunday afternoon.

They'll let them go out for a practice round along side younger players, not really sure if they even played though. There were a few ex-champs that didn't tee off for the tourney that I saw out on Monday and Tuesday walking the course with some groups.

Good god, he wasn't aware.
