What’s frustrating with this course and we have seen it multiple times already is “just get lucky “
Multiple times the entire group bombs it way off line in the rough and 1/3 guys as a dream easy lie 80 yards from the pin and makes an easy birdie
So youre frustrated that the guys that always play that way are playing that way?
Its not a winning recipe with these roughs. Fairways are gonna be a premium which is why i favor guys like Schauffele, Morikawa, Fleetwood (although his irons havent been great the past month) and Fitzpatrick
We just saw Bryson not pull driver off the tee to try to avoid the rough and still end up in it.

Garrett Higgo FAFO: 1 minute late=2 stroke penalty. Yikes.

This basically describes what Pinehurst was to a tee even without traditional rough

I don’t mind easy courses at all. Zero issue with that. Xander’s pga win was great to me. Great tournament. I don’t like when a course sets up for go gets the luckier lies in the rough throughout the week
And a lot of players including Michael Kim who is a great follow says he thinks that’s what it will likely come down to . You get another Pinehurst

Cam Smith temporarily having flashbacks to when he was a good golfer.

Yeah maybe folks should wait til he falls off the top of the leaderboard before they cry about how the course favors bomb and gouge haha

So they do the same thing at the hardest course.....

It’s actually a great setup for smith
Driving accuracy which he maybe the worse in the field at doesn’t matter and putting is very important

Nothing like determining how a tournament will play out after the morning groups are halfway through their round on Thursday.
Then again this is Tiger Droppings, where people will call for Lane Kiffin to be fired if he goes 3 and out on his first drive as a head coach.

It’s the prime setup for Smith

He's got a new coach now Claude Harmon III and fired his swing coach.

Back 9 playing about a stroke and a half more difficult than front
Cam Smith would be set up nice if he can stay at -2
Doesnt look likely with that drive though

15-18 are some of the hardest holes on the course. Most golfers will be lucky to finish E through those. That's why starting on the Back 9 in the AM is beneficial with the easier conditions.
