You could argue the competition Scotty faces is better than tiger’s from top to bottom.

The question was who would you take. If you’re betting on averages, you would never bet against prime Tiger. It’s no complicated. Scottie loses more frequently than prime Tiger did. Scottie doesn’t score as well as prime Tiger did either.
And imagine if Tiger had drivers with the tech of today’s golfers (or even as good as his competition when he played). Tiger’s really only “issue” was keeping his drives in the fairway. Give the best iron player ever clean lies more often, it wouldn’t have even been fair

He’s pretty clearly saying that for the span of a year, no one was better than 2000-2001 Tiger, not that Tiger couldn’t be beaten.

I don’t think that argument has to even be made. Professional golf is far more athletic in todays game and the players spend considerably more time and money on Strength&conditioning and recovery now.
Now that’s not to say a lot of that is not a direct correlation to the effect Tiger had on the game and kids in the 2000s.
