Everyone who reposted this and gave this legs has no right to complain about “liberal corrupt fake media” anymore. You simply don’t You love gossip and such just as much as anyone

Rory McIlroy’s manager Sean O’Flaherty has described as “fake news, zero truth” the report on the player’s possible $850million move to LIV Golf.

Someone mentioned the Hideki and Adam Scott stuff from last year, and how similar the timing was. It wouldn’t shock me if LIV leaks this stuff just to stay in the spotlight since their actual events get zero juice. The only interesting thing about LIV is its player recruiting of the pga tour.

Their event next weekend in Adelaide is going to be massive. Not in US showing a non-live replay on CW, but it is a huge event in Australia

Yeah I meant more coverage and just relevance in the general sports zeitgeist. They’ve had some success with in person attendance, like Australia and Vegas, but also some duds on that front too.

Interested to see how their Houston event does compared to the Houston open. LIV will have much bigger names than the Houston open outside of Scheffler, but it’s also in the middle of June. Which is classic LIV, all the money in the world and no one bothers to check the weather in mid June in Houston.

Rory literally just gave an interview to Golf Channel from the range of a PGA tour event and said he’s never spoken to LIV and had no idea where the rumor came from and will play on the PGA tour the rest of his career.

Seemed pretty definitive.

As someone said earlier, the reaction of people in this thread as far as immediately reading the headline of the news article, the original post, and not any critical thinking or independent research is such a microcosm of our news and media consumption right now. And guaranteed a lot of the people who believed it and ran with it are the first to cry about fake news and the MSM.

I'm not sure how anyone could blame Rory if they offer him almost a billion dollars.

Cool. What if right after this, they called him and said "Here's almost a billion dollars"

It would be strange considering that’s triple what they gave Rahm 4 months ago to be the face of the league.

But idk, this thread isn’t about a hypothetical. Maybe he would go, and still will at some point if the offer becomes high enough. But this thread is about a news report that said this was basically a done deal. And now we’re learning that there’s been no actual talks at all and no offer or discussions between the parties.

It’s also weird to me how many people on this board get all horned up when golfers are paid absurd amounts of money to leave where they currently play and basically destroy the fabric of a sport, but then are up in arms about unlimited transfers and NIL in college sports. Seems a bit hypocritical.

Certainly can't blame him there.

But the odds are that he'd make every excuse possible as to why he did it instead of just telling the truth and that at the end of the day, the money offered trumped everything he said before and essentially he was wrong about the other dudes going for money.

So unless he conceded that, which he never would, he should still get shite for it.

Honestly if I am Rory I would take this....

He took on the role of poster child for the PGA when all of this started. I'm sure he was picked by the PGA to do this. The PGA then went behind everyone's backs and made a deal making Rory really the one who looked like an idiot.

I think if Rory goes then he is the final domino to fall. The PGA at that point will have to conform with what LIV wants. Is this a good thing? Probably not... but the two leagues need to merge.

One is a professional. The other is a student athlete. Just a tad different

It's really heartwarming to see good folks of the MSB care so much about these kids getting an education!

I don’t blame the college player nor the pro golfer by protecting their interests and taking money if that’s what they want

I also don’t blame the NCAA or PGA tour for fighting for their interests

It seems hypocritical when people flip flop on either side of the above
