...after playing there for one year. Seems a little ridiculous especially because even though he was great, it didn't translate into winning anything

Wow...you know, Texas never ceases to amaze me. To have the most resources and money in college sports, don't you think that UT's administration has an inferiority complex? Retired Durant's jersey? Locking in Muschamp so early? I don't know...both moves seem small time to me

I've always maintained that retiring jerseys in any sport and on any level is a ridiculously stupid tradition. That being said, if you're gonna retire jerseys, why wouldn't you retire the jersey of the guy who is by a wide margin the best player who has ever played for your school? Seems pretty simple to me.

Included in the group will be football players Vince Young, Bobby Layne and Tommy Nobis; baseball players Greg Swindell, Burt Hooton, Scott Bryant and Brooks Kieschnick; and basketball players Kevin Durant and Slater Martin.

The school previously had retired only four numbers in school history -- former Heisman Trophy winners Earl Campbell (20) and Ricky Williams (34), Wooden Award winner T.J. Ford (11) and Roger Clemens (21

National Player of the Year and carried a Texas team that otherwise might not have even made the tournament to a #1 Seed and only its second Final Four in School History. Once again, if you're gonna retire numbers (and I sure as hell don't think you should), he deserves to have his hang as well.

It's stupid because obviously Texas is just trying to magically create tradition for their basketball program. Let's see, what did they accomplish the one year Durant was there. First off they didn't win the conference, and didn't finish second, they finished third. Second of all they didn't win their conference tournament. Finally they didn't even make it to the sweet sixteen.

No, but Rudy Macklin's and possibly Chris Jackson's.

I think Texas should've held off on Durant's.
