I usually think that the only guys that should have their numbers retired are those that truly shaped a program. Durant never shaped Texas' program in a meaningful way.
He has and he is.

Augistine shaped the past few years of UT hoops more than Durant did

Not even close. DJ had more succes obviously as he stayed a year longer and led the team to the Elite Eight but Hamilton, Bradley, and the like aren't coming here because of what DJ did.

So, style points>substance at Texas.

I have no qualms with Durant getting his # retired, he was a great college player for that year and Texas does what it wants with honoring there players, I just disagree with you on Durant leading Texas to the ncaa's, he would have put up great #'s without Augustine because he would have shot more, but it would have been like the Pistol with LSU, winning scoring titles and not really going anywhere.

The stay in the tourney in all likelihood would have been a short one but Mason would have still been able to feed the beast enough to get us there with a high seed.

So then Darrell Mitchell is better than Chris Jackson.

So Roughneck, do you think Chris Jackson's jersey should be retired? He is almost equivalent to Durant.

LSU has a policy of only retiring guys that either graduate or go to LSU for 4 years. I think its a good policy.

Didn't follow Jackson's career at LSU and certainly don't know the numbers that he put up so I don't know if I can really answer that.

Did Jackson win any NPOY awards during his time in Baton Rouge? I only ask because KD won all of them in his only year at Texas and that would mean he would even have his number retired at North Carolina of all places.

Chris Jackson average 31 ppg as a freshmen (that's significantly more than Durant) and 30 ppg as a sophomore. And before you mention rebounds for Durant, Jackson had a sick number of steals and assists.

Jackson was 1st team all-american both years and was a a strong candidate but didn't win POY because he competed with upper-classmen talent that doesn't exist in today's game.

Jackson's jersey isn't retired for one and only one reason: He played 2 years and did not graduate. He could have averaged 50 ppg, won 2 NCs, and brought home 2 POY awards. His jersey would not be retired at LSU next to Maravich, Shaq, and Petit.

Would it be retired as Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf?

Action Jackson was sick from the outside, one of the best pure shooters I ever saw in my life, he started the killer crossover before Tim Hardaway, go back and look at his old LSU highlights.

Well that is LSU's policy and they're more than entitled to it. But does that also mean that had Jackson won just even one NPOY Award in either his Freshman or Sophomore Year that he still wouldn't have had his number retired?

Shaquille O'Neal was National POY. His jersey was not retired until 10 years after he started the NBA. It was the same day he received his diploma.

Point being Durant was a superstar but played one year. CJ was every bit the Freshmen (probably the best ever) and player as Durant. But you need to do a little more for the University to get your number retired.

Jackson should have won a NPOY award, he deserved it, especially his first year when they gave it to the guy from Lasalle, I forget his name, but his # should def be retired IMO, alongside O'Neals.
