I always knew A&M could compete, I was unsure about this season given the new coach (though I do love KS) and QB, but long term they could compete.

Mizzo was bad, but probably would have been in the Big 12 However, if A&M was in the Big 12 this year and was 11-1, SEC fans would say Bama should be in the BCS CG over them because Bama is from the SEC and would be big favorites over A&M (which they were in BDS). If A&M was undefeated they would be crying about an SEC team being left out, ND and A&M didn't play anyone etc.

You are rational, so I know you know that the differences are marginal. That the SEC is the best conference, but teams from other conferences can compete and even be gasp, better than the best team in the SEC.

Adding a Heisman winner is kind of a big deal...

if he won the Heisman in the Big 12, they'd say he couldn't compete against SEC defenses, "look at what Sam Bradford did"

Yeah, without knowing about JFF, I thought A&M would go 8-4 (losses to Bama, LSU, Florida, and either MSU or Arkansas). Adding a Heisman winner improved their win total by two, in my eyes. And the underbelly of the SEC is terrible this year (save maybe Ole Miss).

Remember that this is a school whose coach swore up and down that his team was "basically an SEC team", then proceeded to get DVDA'd all over the place on defense.

I never root for SEC teams really. I root for my school(LSU), and ill occasionally root for ny parents school and schools that recruited me that I liked.

However, the dumbest thing that people dont get, is that there is no logical argument for any conference being better than the SEC. So congrats, a team beat an SEC squad. Doesn't change anything

That's vastly different than what we were talking about.

I've seen plenty of the "A&M wasn't all that good in the B12. Look at the success in the SEC. Conference must not be that great" garbage. Downplaying/ignoring the addition of a Heisman winner, which you seemed to imply with "SEC fans swore up and down that a team like A&M couldn't compete, that their offense could never work in the SEC. and in true SEC fan fashion, rather than give someone else credit, they back peddle and say it was because JFF was a special player and wait till we have time to prepare, blah, blah" is pretty dumb.

Put a Heisman winning QB on Vandy this year and they'd likely be an upper echelon team in any conference

Yes, this year the SEC was really stark. Very good on top, god awful on the bottom. 2 teams Auburn and UK,went winless in the SEC and a 3rd, Tenn had only 1 win over UK.

8-4, 9-3 was what i had A&M at, but I thought they'd beat UF and lose to Auburn.

That's a stupid argument, but no different than saying teams outside the SEC couldn't compete.

I'm not downplaying it, but you if you think the ONLY reason A&M was good in the SEC was because they had a Heisman winner, that is also pretty dumb. A&M also has 2 probably top 5-10 NFL draft picks in Joeckel and Moore, so its not as if they were devoid of talent. You can have a good QB, without him winning the Heisman, hell the fact they were in the SEC probably helped, at 10-2 in the Big 12 with the same stats, he probably doesn't win it.

The biggest difference I saw between SEC and B12 was style of play one is power run based the other is downfield passing based. The defenses are built to stop the types of offenses they primarily face if a team from either conference can do both on offense they can win.

Too bad your quality QB got hurt. I'm sure UsC would be in the NC game. Pre season #1 means everything.

The SEC is great these days for a few reasons.

For one, they are finally fully integrated and can exploit their region's demographics. The rest involves academic fraud and lack of recruiting limits.

Not many SEC or Texas schools could compete with OU and Nebraska until they made strides to change their Jim Crow image, because the Midwest generally had the biggest and strongest Caucasian kids compared to all other regions.

Barry Switzer and Tom Osbourne used to be brilliant at recruiting RBs and speed positions in that region by exploiting the history of the region.

Okay, maybe that was trolling a little, but the SEC this year has really been exposed for their lack of fielding offenses. ATM has exposed it, and OU will bury TexAg tomorrow. Stoops is 11-2 against Aggots.

Academic Fraud = ACC (North Carolina)

Lack of recruiting limits = what Baylor does in basketball

Oklahoma has shown a remarkable inability to score against top 30 scoring defenses (TCU, Kansas State, Notre Dame)...averaging just 18.7 ppg in those contests.

Oklahoma has also shown a remarkable inability to defend top 30 scoring OFFENSES, allowing 32.7 points per game in those contests.

A&M has the #3 scoring offense and the #29 scoring defense. GAME OVER.

Aggots of aTm (arse to mouth) know their place against OU and their flagship brethren in Austin. New label, same old results for the skinheads from twangy east Texas.

It'll probably be a shootout honestly, depending on which Landry Jones shows up.

Landry won't be the key factor in the game. Blake Bell will probably do the most damage to aTm.

In all honesty, I think it will be a shootout and OU will definitely have to take Bozworth's advice and utilize a spy on defense to watch JFF at all times.

I wonder if the Texans in Austin will take sides in this one?

A and M offense is just tough to beat

You've got probably the best OT duo in the country and Michael Vick at QB essentially

Only the truly elite defenses will be able to shut that attack down

Anything ranging from just sort of good to mediocre is going to get steamrolled all day

Texas fans think that their team from 3 years ago could beat Bama from 3 years ago because of this??

That is the worst thing I have heard all day

Regardless of whether Texas wins that game or not...what does the SEC's bowl record in 2012 have to do with that game? The SEC has beaten the best team from the Big 12 twice in this streak, so I don't really get this.
