From your post earlier in the thread, you seem to be "in the know" on this thing. When will there be any actual news/talk besides internet chatter?

That would be the last place I'd copy information.

My sources are a combination of being apart of the Champions Council at A&M (think higher up TAF committees), knowing the Castiglione family and those who have worked for the OU Athletic Department, and having a business relationship with a large Horn booster.... those are my 3 unrelated sources.

Couple that with what is being tossed around on some of the premium message boards and those shaking out with the stories I am hearing, and for the first time since all of this started, the stories line up across the board.

Sorry, but money overrules everything you listed.
True, but it's not going to happen unless they can get an significant increase in the TV contracts.

IMO, the best thing the SEC could do would be to bring in some basketball schools that are pretty good in football (like UNC or A&M) so they could grow the basketball footprint as well as increase their TV markets.

Only because it's the only conference to do it (Big-12 is starting this year). If other conferences did the same thing, it would all equal out. Basically the Pac-10 screwed itself vis a vis everyone else for no apparent reason

I'm glad the Pac-10 did it this year, so they didn't have some situation like the Big 10's retarded arse, but I don't think they should do it once they have a conference championship game, because that could ruin a couple teams hopes for postseason. I definately don't agree with the SEC doing it, that would make an already brutal schedule even tougher.

I say it would be a good opportunity to get rid of Vandy and Kentucky. Add A&M and one other team to the west, move Bama and Auburn to the East.

Stronger conference. Kentucky could move to the ACC...better basketball conference and they could probably WIN ACC in football.

Vandy could go strictly intramural

They'd be a good fit for the Big Ten.

Good lord 7 of the 8 teams in the west finished the season ranked in football. That would be a brutal schedule on it's own.

Never giong to happen. No way those schools are going to give up the cash cow they're riding now. Wishful thinking, but we're stuck with them until they decide to pull a Tulane or Georgia Tech and quit.

I'd love to see the A&M, OU, OSU Mizzou merger or, even better, A&M, OU, UNC and UVA (pipe dream). I think 16-team conferences are the wave of teh future. Look at what the Big East has going with hoops and imagine that with football.

The SEC essentially already has that right now does it not?

Someone has never been to College Station, Stillwater or Columbia. Houston is about as "southern" as it gets. The DFW metroplex and Okie City are pretty midwestern (Texans used to joke that the border patrol should be on the Red River, not the Rio Grande) but once you get off the beaten path, it's pretty southern. If you think Fayetteville is southern enough for the SEC, Columbia and Stillwater aren't much different. Hell, Bass Pro Shops is based in Springfield, MO. That's about as redneck as it gets.

In College Station, Texas, you can get sweet tea, cream gravy, cornbread, or grits at a dozen restaurants.

Go an hour east into East Texas and you can find Boudin in the grocery stores. We hunt in the woods and fish in the Gulf and we fish in the Rivers and Lakes of East and Central Texas.

A&M may have a lot Texan in us, but we're Southern, too.

I've been to Columbia several times...if you think it is anything close to an SEC town, you're a retard. I don't care if Bass Pro is 2 1/2 hours away.

Just because Arkansas sucks doesn't mean we need to continue to water down the conference.

Pretty sure it's a Big 12-2 town right now, but all it would take to make it a SEC town is an invite.
But I do think you're a retard.

If Texas went independent, they may have more trouble scheduling than they think and may find themselves on the edge of relevancy for college football. Without a conference, I think Texas will be greatly diminished. They will not likely get a deal with the BCS like Notre Dame. While Texas is rich, they don't have a national footprint like Notre Dame and the BCS schools wouldn't have much incentive to make a deal.

You say this as if it's actually going to happen one day.

And "stuck with". "cash cow". Get real, buddy. Despite two very embarrassing streaks, UK more than pulls their own weight in SEC football and you know it. You can't really say the same for Vandy or Ole Miss (recently).

Vandy I could maybe see it. But Kentucky will never leave the SEC, not only for money reasons, but we really wouldn't fit in with any other conference. We would maybe fit in with the ACC basketball wise, but definitely not football wise.

So, to you, redneck and southern are one in the same?
