I still use this one I've had since high school in the mid 90's. Not sure what modern technological advancements may have been made, but this one still serves me well over 25 years later.

I had a Wilson pro staff that I used for 20 years. Good racket.

Prince is great but nothing beats the Wilson hammer rackets from back in the day like around 1993

Why not just buy him one of those if he likes it?

Better yet, give him yours and get new one.

Unfortunate he’s moved on from a couple of those sports, but football mandated it.

Tennis is just fun. The first set he ever played was in a varsity match. I couldn’t believe he made the team.

Depends on what he’s looking for. I hit a lot of spin so I love my Wilson Ultra S bc the string pattern promotes better spin. I also don’t like when my racquet to too light. It’s all about feel. I cannot stand the Wilson Blade. At all.

I don’t know where you live but many places let you “check out” a racquet for a few days to get a feel for it. PGA Superstore up here does that as do many tennis facilities.

ETA Do NOT buy a racquet for someone else. He really needs to try it out for a few days before buying anything. Also, talk to the pro at the store about grip size. I have long fingers and need a larger grip than most ladies.

This. Demo several rackets until he finds what he likes.

Yeah definitely recommend demoing a few sticks, usually they’ll take the demo cost off the purchase of the racquet. If he’s just going to be a casual high school player I wouldn’t drop big money on some of the newer models.

Just retired my Fischers (Baghdatis hooked me on them 15+ years ago) for the Yonex Vcore a few weeks ago. They felt better than the Ezone imo

He just started playing tennis and made his HS varsity team as a sophomore along with making the team in 3 other sports? How fricking tiny is his HS?

All boys 7-12th grade ~350 kids.

Won a bronze metal in 4A state track meet 4x400 his 8th grade yr.

Super 22 all-region 3A football team as a freshman

Won Class I state championship in soccer, freshman striker

Won Division in the 400m as a freshman

1st team all-state in football as a sophomore

Made the varsity tennis team and hasn’t won a match, played mixed last night.

All things aren’t made equal, he’s not a tennis player. Quit soccer and track after freshman yr.

I had the 2003-04 version of that. Forgot the name and can't find a pic. I do spy the OG Prince Diablo on the side.

High School affiliated tennis is awful

In the 5a state championship tournament I played a kid that wore jeans to the match…..

It’s funny because smaller schools, in LA when I grew up at least, are often way better than larger. 2A was TOUGH to win.

Interesting. It's pretty good in the Atlanta area. My son plays and is just going into middle school next year and it's pretty damn competitive.

High school is 9-12 and has almost 1800 students so most sports are competitive. Not many play two sports, but there are a few.

Ga is by far the best state in the south for tennis(assuming you don’t count Florida as the south)

But even saying that, a lot of your best players wither a. Don’t go to a real high school, or b. Won’t play on the high school team

No recruiting or anything happens through high school tennis
