Houston draw
With Isner hurt and Kyrgios out, that puts the #2 see as #42 ranked Jeremy Chardy. That has to be pretty disappointing.

Didn’t realize Querrey dropped to 71 too

Rough run for Sandgren. Dropping all 150 points he won at Houston last year after losing in the first round last night. Will be interesting to watch if he can grab a couple of points over the next month to get an automatic bid into the French and not have to go through qualifying. Staying in the top 100 or so gets you into all 4 majors @ $50k/. After that the winnings drop off very quickly.

Sad times for American men.
Never fear. The GOAT will save us.

Harrison played like crap today as well.

I'm taking Londero at +100 in Marrakech. It's possible that Vesely has gone from completely hopeless to just mediocre all of a sudden. It's also possible that MV is currently smashing Maria Taylor.
Vesely beat Fognini in the first round, but sometimes that means nothing, and he did have 10 aces, which I'm hoping he won't duplicate. I'll be surprised if he beats a guy who literally plays on clay all year long.
ETA: Obviously I bet on the guy who’s puking on the court.

Well said.
And great excuse for a pic:

His live ranking is now 110. Tennis is freaking rough, man. I can't think of another sports league that is as maniacally hyper-competitive as pro tennis.
Climbing back up the rankings is always more difficult than staying at a direct-entry level for the obvious reason that it's very difficult to earn points when you aren't getting direct main-draw-entry into the big ATP events. He's gonna have to drop down and grind it out in the challengers for a bit, which hurts the most on the paycheck front. Hopefully he didn't take his aussie open winnings to the strip club and make it rain with hundred bands.

Yeah... but it’s just a 250.
Yeah... but he wasn’t 100% in Miami and IW
Yeah... but he’s still young.
Yeah... but he’s great in best-of-3 matches
Yeah... but he’s been ranked in the top 3 or 4 for a good while.
At some point the excuses will be like crying wolf and this dude will have to produce.

I know Zverev won the ATP Finals last year but it seems like he and Lendl aren’t a good match. He has gotten progressively worse under Lendl’s tutelage.

Comparison at 21y 212d of age:
Alexander Zverev

Roger Federer

178-97
64.7%

Zverev also will have to win three out of the next four slams to match Federer’s accomplishments by age 23. Basically every all-time great were getting great results in slams by their 23rd birthday. Zverev will turn 22 next week. The lightbulb has to come on for him soon because time is running out.

I've said this before, but these young baws legit don't know how to handle 3 out of 5 over two weeks. I guess one of them will break through in a couple of years by mere retirements of the old guard.

Johnson just dumped off 250 points as well. Rough couple of weeks for the Americans.
eta: Would be interesting if you could make a graph of say the average ranking of the top 10 ranked USA players by week over the last 10/20 years or so.
etaa: Isner will probably drop out of the top 10 at Madrid if he is still hurt/resting before the French.
