And it will surely get worse with clay coming up, although most of them don’t have many points to defend.

I’ve defended Zverev in the past, but these guys will forever be judged by slam results, whether it’s fair or not.

He hasn’t reached a semifinal yet. And those final set scores are alarming. He’s giving up at the end of matches.

I could see if he was running into members of the Big 3 over and over, but that’s not the case either.

eta: Would be interesting if you could make a graph of say the average ranking of the top 10 ranked USA players by week over the last 10/20 years or so.

It could certainly be done. I won't be volunteering myself for the task, though :)

And he draws Felix in his first match in Monte Carlo.

Waiting for a PDF of the draw...

Thank god it's finally here. This part of the schedule has been painful.

FAA got a WC, which is delightful. He plays a qualifier in the first round but then gets Alex in the second. Both of them are currently on my fantasy squad, so there will be some early friendly fire for me.

If I had to describe Rafa's record at Monte Carlo, I would probably go with "pedestrian at best". A mere 11 titles and a very shaky 68-4 total record.

Monte Carlo does tend to be a decent predictor of how Rafa will do at the French. I mean, obviously the correlation is going to be strong because he pretty much wins both of them every year, but I'm simply observing that in the year he lost to Novak, he merely won Monte Carlo, as opposed to bludgeoning his way through the draw.

Then the last two years he completely bludgeoned through the draw with scorelines littered with 1's and 2's, and then proceeded to win the French rather easily.

On the other hand, David Ferrer beat Rafa at Monte Carlo in 2014*, and Rafa went on to win the French that year in relatively routine fashion. So take it for what it's worth.

Just spitballing, yo.

_________
*I have no recollection of that happening. I was very surprised to see it.

Main draw matches on a Sunday... what? They don't F around in this tourney.

Hurkacz vs. Coric
Berrettini vs. Dimitrov
Pouille vs. Wawrinka
Delbonis vs. Ramos

Props to Fritz for being the only Murican to take a shot. Too bad Tsonga will crush him in the first round.

At least there will be a few Americans in Barcelona.

Almost forgot to pay tribute to possibly my favorite shot of all time. After about 200 views, I'm fully convinced he meant to hit it there and it wasn't a total frame job.
