Can anyone see a single positive thing the 'tackler' is doing in this pic? I just can't get it out of my head, and I see it every week in college and the NFL. Because of this kind of form, we see missed tackles, countless injuries, etc. It is hurting the game and more importantly, it is hurting players at all levels because they want to hear a bunch of 'ooh's' on the off chance this technique works.

Head down, Cannot see shite. Eyes likely closed. Neck and spine at extreme risk of injury if there were something there to hit. Arms pulled in to his sides. The old 'spear' form. Zero attempt at a wrap up. I'm sure there are more observations to be made.

No risk of injury if there’s no contact?

This is what I was thinking. It's the perfect example of what not to do when tackling someone. I don't understand the eyes closed head down spear tackle.

Had nothing to do with form.

He wanted to cause an incompletition by dislodging the receiver from the ball. He made an attempt at a play on the ball instead of just staying behind the receiver and tackling him in bounds. His choice of modus operandi was wrong. His lack of intelligence on the play was obvious to everyone. He had exactly what he could have asked form position to make a form tackle, in bounds, as the receiver came down with the ball.

Instead he wished to attempt to play the ball. Cost his team the game. Learn from it and move on.

In attempt other uniform.

Dude, that ball is not on the ground. It's 9 or 10 feet in the air.

I think he knew was a step too early and didn’t want to get PI.

It’s the only thing I can think off

God damn some of you are dumb as frick.

He wished to arrive on time to force the ball out of Diggs arms you dumb count as it arrived in the god damn air..

frickin idiots on this board.

Dislodge the ball once it arrived in the air in his ducking arms. That is making a play on the ball to force am incompletition. Either with his hands inside his chest or with his body.

Your posts are damned near illegible.

In fact, you sound just like Les Miles. Is that you, Les? Who speaks like this?

Are you defending him or shitting on him? I can’t even tell.

It's almost like it was fake and totally scripted...

I've never seen a more fail play that didn't look like some point-shaving B.S. - that looked like a bad imitation of a soccer dive - and he didn't sell it very well. A pro athlete with that ability is going to totally avoid the receiver?

That play is beyond bizarre. That's just not a missed tackle. That's a "uhhh, what the hell was that acting job?"

Something fishy in that game...the swings, the last seconds by both teams...I felt like Vince McMahon was writing the script.

The first thing that went through my head, was...

WTF, it's like he missed him on purpose!!!

What a ridiculous attempt at a "tackle"

Truth is, he's not trying to tackle anyone, he's just trying to hit someone, turning his body into a projectile.

As you pointed out, everything he is doing is wrong in every way.

Teachable moment for the kids:
Watch Vonn Bell and see how close he actually gets to Diggs.

When the ball is in the air, run to it. Never stop and give up. Run to it as fast as you can the second you see it go. You could be the one to make a game saving tackle.

That matters more than Williams one mistake his rookie year.

Pretty sure that’s what he was doing. Watch the entire sequence and that is all that makes sense.

The hurt to watch the replay. Was just situation unawareness. He thought we needed an incompletion when all we needed was a tackle inbounds.
