Let's set it up. Started from the Parcell's thread and with an assist from the Bill Simmons Trade Value Column. At the end of the rankings, we'll try to separate them into tiers.

Basic idea is trying to see who the most valued quarterback in the NFL.

quote:

Rules:

1. Age matters a little bit. Can you still gear your team and franchise around this quarterback or are you having to plan season to season?

2. Pretend the league passed the following rule: For 24 hours, any player can be traded without cap ramifications but with luxury-tax ramifications. So if Team A tells Team B, "We'll trade you Player X for Player Y," would Team B make the deal?

3. Concentrate on degrees. Neither New England nor New Orleans would make a Brady-Brees trade, but the Patriots would at least say, "Wow, Drew Brees is available?" and have a meeting about it while the Saints would say, "There's no frickin' way we're trading Drew Brees." That counts in the big scheme of things.

LSU MNC Has given us a starting point Starting Point.

"LET'S MAKE A DEAL"

32. Jamarcus Russell
31. Jake Delhomme
30. A. J. Feely
29. Trent Edwards
28. Matt Moore
27. Josh Freeman
26. Alex Smith

"We're Open to Discussing It"
25. Matt Lienart
24. Matt Hasselback
23. Kyle Orton

"Just Know, He's Worth More To Us Than To You"
22. Matthew Stafford
21. David Garrard
20. Vince Young
19. Chad Henne
18. Kevin Kolb
17. Donnovan McNabb
16. Matt Cassell
15. Carson Palmer

"Effectively Untouchable"
14. Mark Sanchez
13. Joe Flacco
12. Matt Ryan
11. Jay Cutler
10. Eli Manning

"It Makes Us Angry That You'd Even Ask"
9. Tony Romo
8. Matt Schaub

"Lemme Save You Some Time: N-O"
7. Brett Favre
6. Ben Roethlisberger
5. Phillip Rivers
4.Aaron Rodgers

"Completely And Utterly Untouchable"
3. Tom Brady
2. Peyton Manning
1. Drew Brees
---
What y'all think?

I think Schaub's way too high.

for the young qbs I'd put rogers and rivers on equal footing

win now and the three best are obviously brees, brady, manning

roethesberger would have been a good argument for #1 overall if it wasn't for his issues... because he's already won at the highest level and has another 7-8 years of quality play left... but if he can't stay out of jail in the future that's an issue

just trying to set up a circumstance. give me a better one.

i think the packers would trade aaron rodgers for peyton manning, drew brees, or tom brady in a heartbeat.

we should probably start at the bottom.

How big of a factor is age?

Brees is 31.
Manning is 34.
Brady is 33.

So that's the consensus top 3, I'd assume.

Assuming the age factor, and that most QBs are done around age 38, Brees has 7 years left at most.

Rodgers is only 26, so he has 12 great years left in him.

Looking at career arcs.

Brees 2nd year: 3,159, 65.5%, 27 TDs, 7 INTs - rushing: negligible

Rodgers 2nd year: 4,434, 64.7%, 30 TDs, 7 INTs not to mention his deceptive rushing game: 58 carries, 316 yards 5 TDs

to me the chargers consider the Manning for Rivers trade and the Colts do not. Ditto for Rodgers.

I'll assign percentages. Age being the least important factor.

I'm not sure what you are asking then.

If you are talking about a one year player RIGHT NOW, of course you take the top 3.

If you are talking about building a franchise going forward for the next decade, you easily pass Brady & Manning, maybe consider Brees and look at the younger guys...

it's a factor but not the MOST important factor.
I guess the best way to put it is, does the guys have 5 years plus left? Is it season to season like Favre Warner?

I read #2 as if you would trade them straight up without the outside variable of having a full team established behind them.

but if the Chargers wanted to win a championship next season and next season only, im sure they would trade Rivers for Manning in a scenario like this

Schaub?

no
