Taylor Heinicke Knew What He Was Doing on Last Sack/ 15yd Penalty

Taylor knew that if he “gave himself up” the defenders would still come and get him given the situation of the game. You can see him immediately go to the refs looking for the call.
To be clear, I’m not saying the play was to get an unnecessary roughing call but if the play didn’t work he was to give himself up to run more clock. He just did it in a way that would probably result in a penalty bc the defenders are 1) going all out to get him bc they know the game depends on it and 2) wouldn’t expect him to take a knee prior to getting sacked.

So what?
Long glorious history of receivers doing this...feigning for a flag. Players know NFL refs have no discerning qualities. They bite on everything.
But he was probably hoping for it.
He went out of his way in the postgame interview to say he wasn't looking for a flag which nobody says unless its on their mind and they were looking for a flag.

So nothing. Just saying lit was pretty clear to me that the play was to give himself up if the 1st option wasn’t wide open. I’m also saying Heinicke was aware of the potential of a 15 yd penalty.

This is a bigger issue across all sports.
Refs used to be able to say...nah, nah, nah...I know what you're doing...I ain't penalizing.
Now its just Corporate letter of the law.
There's no longer this "Jimmy get up, we know you're faking" that you see in old NFL Films.
So much more discretion back then to call players out. Now its just follow the law.
Refs don't have leeway now to judge Heinicke was begging for a penalty.

This one was just using the rule to your advantage. When Pickett faked a give up slide then that should result in serious enforcement. The sport trains players to pull up if a QB gives himself up so faking “giving yourself up” should result in a penalty and a fine bc goes against the whole point of the rule.

I agree with this.
Pickett should have faced ejection because if a player hit him while he was sliding, the defensive player is facing ejection.

I hate penalties that decide a game unnecessarily.
The reality is that wasn't a brutal hit at all. It was VERY late...so late, that I have trouble complaining too much.

That's still one of the shittiest ones I've seen in awhile. Wake Forest players should have absolutely blasted him late on every play after that.

Heinicke knew exactly what he was doing and it was brilliant. He outsmarted the Eagles in a LEGAL manner. I don’t get the backlash he’s receiving for playing within the rules.
Brandon Graham screwed up…simple and plain! Besides, Washington played a better game and deserved to win.

The “hit” was neither a forceful hit nor to the head or neck area. It looked like it was going to be hard but IMO he held up enough.

He knew he was keeping the clock going. Graham was the idiot who heard the whistle, saw a player already on him, and hit him extremely late.

Completely. Very late. Obvious he was down already. Not only did graham hit him but completely twisted him and could have resulted in a leg injury. It was a necessary call. Far more so than any of those BS roughing the passer calls we’ve seen on Brady or the like.

He is coming on Pat McAfee Show in the next hour & they will ask him about this play.

It was the right call, it just sucks because as a defender you are busting your arse to get to the ball carrier, and when someone gives themselves up like that all of a sudden in the backfield, its really hard to flip that pursuant switch off.

I think that's all he had in mind.
The unsportsmanlike was just a big time bonus.

It's not just the switch...We've all seen where a player launches himself and then the opponent gets rid of the ball or hops out of bounds...and a penalty is called. What physics can a player at full speed in mid-air suddenly back off?
