I really don't understand the concept.

Think about it.

People show up hours, sometimes days, early for a game. Set up elaborate outdoor kitchens, TV's, music ect..

They even bring tons of dumb games because of the boredom of having to wait so long for the game to start

Why not do that stuff at home then drive to the game closer to the start?

I know I will get railed for simply asking this but, if you really think about it, it makes a lot of sense.

better to get out there early than to start drinking heavily and everyone jump in cars to hurry up and go to the game.

that comment was a little sarcastic but it had some truth in it

You're talking about tailgating and you didn't consider the alcohol part.....that's the whole point of it.

Yea it's nice to be there, so you know you don't have to do anything else until after the game

Less traffic if you show up early, more time to drink and talk shite to opposing fans

the atmosphere at your house doesnt even compare to the atmosphere near the stadium where your entire fan base is drinking and having fun

My guess is that you have never been tailgating before, or you did alone because you have no friends.

-Get to the lot early before cops close streets and direct you in the opposite direction of where you want to be
-Set up a couple canopies, chairs, radio, and a television with friends and family
-Outdoor cooking on the grill or any other piece of outdoor cooking equipment
-Watch early games while throwing down pulled pork sandwiches and jambalaya with beer
-Kids tossing the football around

Sorry, I really do fail to see what's negative about all of that

This right here. LSU basically invented tailgating.
