My-oh-my! The PAC-12 has really fallen upon hard times. Once one of the nation's elite conferences is now inviting the school formerly known as Southwest Texas State University.

No to both of those.

I mean Coastal was in the national championship…

One team is not the whole conference. The Sunbelt drops off pretty quickly.

The SBC is baseball strong and the Tech program adds some strength.

With Tech’s move to the SBC, there will be intense pressure on their HC to get to a super regional very soon.

SBC is at worst 4th best baseball conference - maybe 3rd or tied for 3rd.

The earlier post is correct - not many programs will want to tangle in a weekend series with the new SBC top 5 teams.

Like I said, the top 4 are stout and all have hosted regionals in the not so distant past. Tech has guys from LSU, Florida State, etc. Southern Miss beat LSU in a regional in 22. ULL has been to Omaha. Coastal won a national championship and played in another.

If you sacrificed the bottom of the SBC with the top of the Big 12, I think the SBC might pull it out.

If the way we played down the stretch this past season, and the way this off-season has been like a shitshow, is any indication, Cajuns' baseball program may very well be on a rough downturn.

I hated losing Gunner. Tell me how you let a guy who was a star in your program with all sorts of ties to UL get hired away for the same position at another Sunbelt school? His grandparents were our next-door neighbors for 15 years or so, and we still communicate. I haven't asked his grandpa yet.

Do you have any insight? Is the issue what they are paying the guys? The AD? Is Deggs the issue?

Glad Southern Miss has another rivalry game in the SBC. Louisiana Tech was the only rivalry left when Southern Miss left CUSA.

All sorts of rumors, who knows what is true. I'm not an "insider".

What I do know, though, is we don't have money to pay really good athletes to stay. Not in football, not in baseball, hell...not even softball. Supposedly the new basketball coach has gone out and raised monies himself to help his program. He's likely a short term rental if he's successful anyway.

In this new age of no-sit portal transfer combined with "NIL", I don't think we stand a chance to build programs that remain towards the top of even non-P4 standings.

Yea the bleak new reality in g5 is year to year success. You’re not building shite long term in this climate. Even with a good coach who can string some successful years together by recruiting year over year it’s not “building a program” really in the way it used to be.

All official dealing between LaTech and the Cajuns will use the preferred branding of Louisiana. This was part of the deal brokered between the SBC, Louisiana, ESPN and LaTech.

It is in writing, and we shall see how long LaTech adheres to the agreement.

It’s a SBC initiative and agreed to by its official media partners and member institutions. The preferred branding of teams “shall” be used.

Our Great Governor Jeff Landry has even chimed in on Facebook congratulating LTU and saying he's looking forward to some great in-state rivalries.

No

There is a law in Louisiana that states none of the University of Louisiana schools can use the moniker Louisiana. It's not just ULL/ULM either, Tech is part of the system. ULL IMMEDIATELY tried to call themselves Louisiana, to the point that from the start people in Lafayette only referred to them as UL. ULM did not sign off on it for years. Then one year, Bruno got tired of it all and let it happen. ULL has never let go of it since.

We are Louisiana in athletics. Accept it or not, doesn't matter because our branding is accepted conference and nationwide. Who cares what some redneck in Ruston or Denham Springs calls us! We are LOUISIANA!

You sure about all that nonsense? Looks like ULM did it first
