I'm going with Brad Johnson. He started like 5-6 games at FSU in 4 years and lost his job to guys like Peter Tom Willis and Casey Weldon. He only threw more than 100 passes in a seson once, and that was only 160.

Then, he becomes a 15 year NFL player with 2 Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl win.

Surprised nobody has mentioned George Kittle yet. He had 48 receptions, 737 yards, and 10 TDs during his entire four year career at Iowa.

True.

That is what blew me away about Gore. He has been this good after an injury that if he never made the league it woulda been normal. Or if he had just been ok for a few years we woulda been talking about what ifs, like Dupree.

Those two were the best two freshmen I ever saw. Back when freshmen didn’t play at stacked programs.

You don’t judge ends in the big ten on those kind of stats.

Owens played college football for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.[1] He wore #80 to honor Jerry Rice, whom Owens loved to watch as a child.[1] Owens caught 38 passes for 724 yards and eight touchdowns during his sophomore year, and 34 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns during his junior year. Owens faced double coverage every week during his senior year, and so only had 43 receptions for 667 yards and one touchdown. He also played in the Senior Bowl.

Wut?

Holmes has 1200 career yards. Gore 1900. Priest had 20 tds. Gore 17.

Gore 25 receptions. Holmes 14.

Gore did it in three years.

Oh. And Holmes put up his first 3 stats in the SWC, not the big 12. Big 12 VASTLY superior to SWC.

Perhaps that's true but Maxx Williams had more receptions, receiving yards, and TDs in two seasons at Minnesota than George Kittle had in four years at Iowa. I would have expected Kittle to at least put up 400, 500 yard seasons while being the leading or second leading receiver on his team but that never happened.

Matt Cassel

4 years at USC and his career stat line was 20-33 for 192 yard, 0 TD, 1 INT

Never started a game at QB or even threw a TD pass in college and still got drafted and eventually made a pro bowl

Julian Edelman was a below average QB in college and has been an 11-year NFL wide receiver

And I can't believe Tom Brady hasn't been discussed more. Guy was extremely average in college.
