They have always poked fun at SC for being "spoiled rich kids" and there are a few at SC, but the reality is quite different, so the irony makes it funny to me.

Are Stanford kids not privileged as well? Their hypocrisy is the most amusing thing about the Stanford band.

You don't have to be rich to go to Stanford. Tuition varies by your income level or that of your parents IIRC. Tuition at SC is north of 55K per year, but there are some killer grants available, and scholarships too. Most SC students I know struggle financially through college, but they tend to do very well after graduating.

The only person I've met from SC was this little stuck up, rich girl from Seattle. Almost every school has its share of rich dumbfricks though. Kids from DFW say hello.

There's definitely skill required for marching band. As a former marching band member, I will definitively say that there is little athleticism involved.

The mere fact that many people on here are complaining about the unfunniness of the Stanford band is what they thirst for. Little of their actual material is high brow comedy. It's the reactions of people to their shows that makes it funny.

Scott Van Pelt put it the best on Twitter.

"Nobody gives fewer f's than the Stanford band."

Their band is hilarious. I wish Oregon would go the Stanford route because our band is garbage.

Some people in this thread are way too dense to realize this

I mean, someone jokingly compared Ohio State and Stanford's bands and an Ohio State fan took the contest seriously

People starting threads such as these is the reason Stanford does what they do.

The practice, precision and coordination required is tremendous. I won't say members of a good band are 'athletes," but they're at least close. And bands are tremendously competitive.

At least South Park is clever and creative (they don't bat 1.000 of course, but they come up with good material). The Stanford band just tries to push the envelope for the sake of pushing the envelope. You can only ride that for so long until you become lame.

Rice did this for a long time until they made fun of the Corps during Vietnam by implying Aggies were Nazis. Needless to say it didn't go over well and they were chased out of the stadium into a warehouse after the game and were banned from Kyle Field for a long time.

You sure that wasn't the game in which they made a fire hydrant the week after Reveille died?

It was that game and it was 1973 and I was wrong it was at Rice not at Kyle Field. They goose stepped during their performance as well.

Also, Reveille hadn't died before the game. The previous mascot actually died in 1966.

It's funny now, but at the time and considering the circumstances of the country at the time, it was pretty far over the line. Rice did issue an apology afterwards.

i was at the game and was excited to see them.. but tbh, both their pre-game and halftime performances were boring and not funny at all

i think the best part was the entire Wisconsin fanbase booing them.. that was actually funny
